O God, do not be far from me; O my God, make haste to help me! Psalm 71.12

God can be so far from us that we can get to a point where we cannot reach Him any longer. However, in order to stop this from happening, we should not exclude Him from our lives or give our backs to Him. Those who stop seeking Him with dedication lose many things. This refusal, though it may seem a personal decision, is in fact the work of the demon. He provokes this distance and finds ways to lead this person where he can attack him without being bothered.

We do not know the reason why the psalmist feels lost and distant from the Omnipotent. However, when he saw that this could happen, he entered in prayer and begged God to free him from such a situation. If one day you feel that the Lord is unsatisfied with something you have done, and is becoming far from you, enter in prayer and ask for divine help.

The psalmist’s prayer is the proof that you can bring the Lord nearer to you. The nearer you are to Him, the better and more protected you will be, if you use your faith.  When you are close to He who has all the ability, you will not be struck by any plague; the venomous arrow by the enemy will not reach you. Thus, you will prove the Father’s love and will also be fully complete by the faith that works in Jesus.

The psalmist wanted his deliverance to be urgent. This shows that we can affect the divine operation. However, when there is any kind of sin that is not confessed, the Lord is unable to act (Is 59.2). Therefore, always examine yourself and do not let the sun set over what you have done wrong. Those who confess their mistake and repent achieve mercy (Prov 28.13), and therefore, will not have the Lord far away from their requests.

Your answer to the Lord’s revelations in His Word will determine what He will do. Thus, be unshakeable in this certainty, for you will know how to act in any situation. All the doubts about what direction to take will end, and He will fulfill things through you and for you. The Most High never denies His own declarations; He always fulfills His promises (Nm 23.19). His Word will reign over all the enemy’s works.

God and His Word are one – they are interconnected in an inseparable way, whether it is under a slight or profound analysis. On the instant that you understand what He has for your life, take hold of that information, like Jacob did with the angel without letting him go. The Patriarch used the authority of a man that walks with God, and because he acted in such a way, he was blessed.

Having the Lord always near is a sign that our lives are infinitely better than what we could ever think of. This should not only be our target, but also the reason of our actions. Whoever walks with the Omnipotent will never bow before the evil attacks, and therefore, will never stop seeking the divine presence.

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares

Oh God! It is so good to learn not to let You be far from us, for we need Your help always. We desire Your protection, so we want You to be very close to us.

If You go far away, bring us together, for You have promised that wherever You were, we would also be. Our soul is thirsty, hungry, and needy of You more than we can imagine. We need Your shelter very much.

Now, we thank You, because after this meditation, our heart is more than conformed and willing to do Your will, to love You and serve You. You are the Only One that deserves the first place in our lives. Complete us, raise us, and love us through Jesus. Amen!
