Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy — meditate on these things.

Philippians 4: 8

We’re responsible for our thinking therefore we mustn’t nurture thoughts which might cause us to turn away from God. As the apostle Paul was writing to the Philippians he numbered a few points we should draw our attention to. Provided we follow the right direction those points will surely do us good. As the God transforms our lives through our understanding we can experience the good, the pleasant and the perfect will of God (Romans 12: 2) which leads us to a happy and prosperous life.

You ought to never meditate on false ideas. Now, an idea is genuine whenever it comes from The Word of The Lord and whenever it’s backed up by IT. And that’s the reason why you are to stay away from any idea which – although apparently appropriate it turns out that it has no biblical base at all and it will cause you great harm – all ideas not coming from The Most High turns us away from The Truth and actually lead us into deceitfulness; that’s the reason why you ought to never consider them praiseworthy, nor ought you to keep them in your mind, just drop them!

Everything that comes from God is righteous; therefore, everything that doesn’t is from the devil. All those things from the material realm or the imaginary realm have their source either in the Light or in the darkness. Never any evil will come from our Heavenly Father because He is Light (I John 1: 5). On the other hand, nothing good can ever come from the enemy considering that he is evil. Righteous things are originated in God and also when His justice is put into practice – there’s a thought for us to ponder on because there’s a blessing for us as we meditate on it.

The Lord is the very Pure Source in which we find absolutely nothing likely to cause us any harm. So, whatever is maculate mustn’t even be considered, – even if a matter is not specifically stated in His Word we understand that either its prohibition or its permission will still be valid by analogy. Let’s take an example: The Word states that those who are addicted to alcoholic drinks will not inherit The Kingdom of Heavens because, in doing so, they’re actually destroying their own bodies which are the temple of The Holy Spirit (II Corinthians 6: 16). Bearing that verse in mind we can understand comparatively that because all drug addicts, for instance, are also causing themselves harm they shall not inherit The Kingdom of God either (Galatians 5: 21).

It’s absolutely impossible for whatever things not lovely to come from God; be it either material or abstract – If something makes us feel bad or if it causes us a feeling of mistrust or if it goes against The Scripture it turns out that that’s not suitable for us. We’re to only cherish tenderness, innocence and purity.

Don’t crowd your mind with immoral thoughts because that will hinder the progress of your sentimental life. It turns out that those who take that kind of attitude make the wrong choice whenever it comes to getting married. Yet, those people who only think of those things of good report have the advantage of not even perceiving the filth of this world as they become immune to what is not praiseworthy – things with no value at all which, unfortunately, still dominate many people’s minds nowadays, people who feel pleasure in error.

Empty things have no virtue whatsoever and they’re actually time consuming. If we keep on meditating on them we’ll gain nothing in return and we’ll be missing the opportunities of designing good plans for our lives and other people’s, of saying praiseworthy words and of making the right decisions at the right time. Don’t stop crowding your thoughts with valuable ideas!

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
