Then the king of Assyria carried Israel away captive to Assyria, and put them in Halah and by the Habor, the River of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes, 12 because they did not obey the voice of the Lord their God, but transgressed His covenant and all that Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded; and they would neither hear nor do them.  2Kings 18.11-12

The Lord had to divide David’s kingdom because of Salomon’s iniquity and because of Rehoboam’s lack of judgment. With that in mind, we can understand that, in many cases, He does the same to churches, families and groups of friends. Jeroboam, who led the revolt, was not looking for that, but he took that attitude under God’s command (1Kings 12.15). However, he soon allowed himself to be led by a misleading spirit and contaminated the newly-created nation. More than 200 years passed and the Israelites had not yet made things right.

They did not believe that God would allow His people to be taken captive even though the prophets affirmed that this would happen. Even though people may not agree with the rebuke of the Most High, His words will come to pass. The best to do is to return to the Father in repentance and entirely change your life, thoughts and desires. It is worth noting that no word that goes forth from His mouth is void of power (Isaiah 55.11).

The king of Assyria, Shalmaneser, was only able to enslave and destroy the nation of Israel – the northern kingdom – because the Israelites did not want to hear the instructions in Scriptures nor the prophets. This was their error: they despised the words of the Lord. We all act that way and, if we do not correct our path nor seek repentance with a change of heart, we will be under the wrath of God.

The prophecy came to pass and the Israelites from those ten tribes went to a land that was not theirs and never returned (2Kings 17.23). Think about it: if Jesus returned now or if you died right now, which would be your eternal destiny? If you are not fully confident in your heart of your salvation, look for a pastor, a man of God, and get things right with the Lord. Do not play with your future, because you can be in danger.

Those who are pushing God’s patience, in the Day of Judgment will have the same fate of the people of Israel. The Lord will not have another option but to send them to eternal damnation, from where they will never leave. Jesus has already purchased our salvation, but we need to claim it with all of it’s benefits and requirements. The price to pay is to obey what is written and, in so doing, serve the Father with love and devotion. Those who defile the Lord’s holiness, because they are His temple, will not enter Heaven.

Consider if you have been transgressing the Commandments of the Most High and the precepts left by Christ and the Apostles. Why remain in sin, if its wages is death (Romans 6.23)? He who serves God lacks no good thing. The devil may do his best to reach the believer, but he won’t be successful.

He who does not keep what the Scriptures say, does not live with honor and, after Judgment, will suffer the eternal punishment. What will be your decision, then? Get on your knees now and seek reconciliation with God. He desires to – and will – give you a more abundant life (John 10.10b).

In Christ, with love,

Most High and sovereign Lord. How foolish were the people who separated themselves from Judah and formed the northern kingdom. They could have become Your joy, but they preferred the golden calfs Jeroboam had made. May we never do anything that offends or irritates You.

We ask for Your help against the temptations sent by the enemy. May we always be faithful and dedicated to Your work so that we will love You more and more. Even though temptations may be strong, we desire to be sheltered in You, our Protector, so we will not fall.

Millions who were part of the kingdom of Israel were dispersed and we never heard of them again, all because they did not hear You. Lord, we want to live before You in all faithfulness and holiness. We need to understand and fulfill Your plans.
