Now Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel. 1 Chronicles 21.1

The Israelites, under David command, had obtained great victories; kingdoms after kingdoms had been beaten by the son of Jesse and his army. So, his fame spread through the region. The nations which fought against him were defeated and paid tribute to Israel. It is good to be victorious, but humility must be the sign of the sons of God, in everything and every time.

Victory fills us of happiness and makes us feel strong. But if the victorious person doesn’t have a good structure, probably will give victory to his strength, showing that pride which goes before fall has already came into his heart (Pro 16.18). Throughout the centuries, this has happened with many servants of the Lord. This spirit is one of the weapons from  Hell to block the champions of God keep on winning. Watch out for you not to fall down too (Ps 19.13).

It doesn’t matter what is going on with us. Whether times are bad or good, the important thing is to be in communion with the Most High. Without it, the servant of God will fall into temptation. On one side, it is the Lord who gave the victory and it is not recognized; on the other side, it is the devil who knows that, if he makes the winner to be proud of himself, he will take him out of God’s hand and will put this person under his claws.

David didn’t realize that his desire wasn’t good. We don’t know what was deep inside him when he decided to number his people. Was he thinking to fight against the Assyrian and Egyptian empires and so become his kingdom the main world power? That could be done if the desire came from the Most High. The same temptation has occurred with many christians and, unfortunately, some have fallen down.

Put what comes to your heart before the Lord. However, yet you are sure that it is from God, wait until it is confirmed from the mouth of two or three witnesses. Besides, always ask and seek humility. This characteristic must be as a crown on your head. If the Father wears it, He does it for mercy. If He puts you in a leadership position, be a servant of the others (Mk 9.35b). Jesus advises to watch and pray (Mk 14.38a).

Never despise the Most High; if you do, you have already fallen into temptation and the price you will pay for it will be high. Believe in me, even you obtain one or more victories without divine help, it doesn’t compensate because the devil will rage with your conquer and will attack you. There is nothing better than to be sheltered by God (Ps 46).

The enemy cannot beat a winner when he has been helped by the Most High. Besides, the Lord is committed to the one who serves Him and with everything about the life of His servants. He promised that not a filament of hair will fall from our heads apart from His will (Mt 10.29,30). Be always a servant, humbly.

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares

Dear Father! Save us after every success, because we don’t want to be beaten by Satan. If David fell down, who won’t? But if You hold us, we will always be stood up. Help us in everything, Most High God.

May we never forget Your advices and when pride, vanity and other hellish weapons come to tempt us, come with Your strength on our behalf. Father! Do not let us fall into temptation.

May we never despise You, for we do not want to fall into temptation. It is our desire to be on Your side, in full communion. Then, may your Holy Spirit fill our being totally so we can’t be indivisible.
