Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

Jude 1:11

There is nothing sadder than wandering from the way of the Lord. When an individual gives ear to the Gospel, he or she gets the greatest gift of all – salvation, with which he or she will not get lost for eternity but rather will go to Heaven. The enemy, however, refuses to be defeated and always comes to tempt us with all his devices (II Corinthians 2:11). The sad thing is that many depart from God’s path to walk the road of suffering.

Despite the fact that the decision made by Cain was the worst possible choice, there are people who take the same course of action. To start with, they lose their peace of mind and then they are dominated by unclean spirits; in the end, they will be cast in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone forever (Revelation 21:8). As a result, they will be tormented day and night without being able to get a minute’s peace, and to make things worse there will not be a second chance: he who is thrown into the bottomless pit will never stop falling.

Cain’s future would have been bright if only he had been concerned about what he would offer to the Lord, but after having his offer rejected, he decided to kill his own brother. He acted out of envy when he discovered that Abel’s offer had been accepted (Genesis 4). Seek the Lord’s guidance as to what you should offer to Him and all other things pertaining to your life. Once you have it, act in accordance with what was revealed to you.

The prophet Balaam, in turn, was covetous. He called himself a man of God, but was driven by greed. Even though he had been forbidden by God to curse Israel, he sold himself when he taught the Moabites how to tempt Jacob’s sons (Numbers 22). What happened to him should be a warning to prevent people from putting a stumbling block before the holy people. Woe to those who lead astray one of the little ones who believe in Jesus, for they shall pay an exceedingly high price (Matthew 18:6).

The rebellion of Korah was very serious: he managed to join a few rebels, who paid with their own lives for the audacity of having risen up against the Lord’s work. Do not speak evil of God’s work nor join those who do so. The Lord is jealous of what He does (Exodus 34:14), so do not get carried away by the spirit of deception, because it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrew 10:31). Surely, He will not fail to punish those who disrupt His plan.

The only way we must walk in is the Way of God, which is the Truth and the Life. So what else do we need? Someone would say “nothing”, but this was not what Jesus taught. He declared that man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord (Matt. 4.4). So when you understand what the Almighty reveals to you, it becomes the direction for your life, and by taking possession of His word, evil can no longer reach you.

In Christ with Love,
