Thus says the LORD: “Execute judgment and righteousness, and deliver the plundered out of the hand of the oppressor. Do no wrong and do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, or the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place.

Jeremiah 22:3

God didn’t want His people to be extinguished; but the kings of Judah didn’t believe in His word, and captivity in Babylon was the great shame of this nation that was once called by the name of the Lord. The Most High doesn’t want to destroy anyone, but the people’s pride and madness don’t allow Him to accomplish His word. Because of this, when eternal captivity comes, these people will be in great despair, and there will be no way to escape.

Although He said that captivity was inevitable, the Lord sent Jeremiah to prophesy to the king of Judah. In the prophet´s exhortation there was a promise that David´s descendents would enter through the royal gates and would sit on Judah´s throne forever (Jeremiah 22:4). But, although the chances that this would happen were minimal, they didn’t take it seriously, and were taken into captivity in Babylon.

Many people are blind in errors and consider themselves to be special, as if they had the right to sin. Greed dominates them, and it doesn’t allow them to see the imminent danger, as it happened to king Zedekiah – he believed that he was able to deceive his enemies and to deceive the Most High. He ended up fleeing during the night with his children and his army.

He would never believe that he was going to be treated with such perversity until he had been taken captive. But, because his soldiers abandoned him, each one looking for his own escape, the king of Babylon reached Zedekiah, who had his children killed before him and his eyes bound with bronze fetters, and was taken into captivity until he passed way (2 Kings 25:1-7). Those who refuse the divine offering have a really sad end!

The terms suggested by the Lord were easy to be accomplished. If the king had accepted these terms, he would prevail and it would be written about him that he had been wise to try the goodness of the Lord. All he should have done was to execute judgment and righteousness, deliver the oppressed out of the hand of the oppressor, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, or the widow, and not shed innocent blood.

God doesn’t ask us too much. Many readers will only consider this condition when it´s not possible to escape from it anymore. You know where the Lord has been touching you, so why not give Him attention? Take the wisest decision in your life!

The salvation God offers, is for you and all your family. If you follow the divine direction, you will enter through the celestial gates and in heaven you will live forever. But if you disobey the Father´s teaching, you and your house will become desolate.

In Christ, with love,
