22/01/2017 - DECLARING HIS OWN SENTENCE

So David’s anger was greatly aroused against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As the Lord lives, the man who has done this shall surely die!” 2 Samuel 12.5

If you are hasty in answering, you may be led towards wrong decisions, which may bring you some kind of loss. Therefore, it is good to be watchful with everything that is before you. Even if your heart tells you what to do, pray and wait for God’s direction. Never act outside of the Word, so that you may not be found with strange fire in the Lord’s altar, your own heart.

David’s anger was greatly aroused against the person that prophet Nathan used in the parable, and declared that he should suffer. However, he did not know that he was that person. It is impossible to hide a sin, for in the spiritual world, it remains like the sign that Cain received, which identified him wherever he went. Do not be exposed as the transgressor, but as a person who knows how to serve God in every moment.

If David had prayed when he saw Bathsheba bathing, he would not have felt the desire that filled his soul and would not have committed adultery, bringing condemnation upon himself. Be careful, for the devil wants to drive you towards his side. If you are not watchful, you will be part of the group of adulterers, and might be part of those who are prohibited to enter in the Kingdom of God. If you have already fallen in sin, seek for repentance.

Christ has taught us to watch and pray (Matthew 26.41). However, even knowing what happened to the biblical heroes that were not watchful and sinned, we have not avoided that the enemy might lead us into betrayal. The child of God, even though he may be anointed, he is flesh like any other person and might commit acts that will bring his judgment if he does not follow the Master’s orientation. Therefore, it is better to take the Lord’s warning seriously.

Among Jesus’ parables, there was one of the man who was forgiven of a great debt, but that demanded his own debtor to pay him. Therefore, his forgiveness was taken back and he received a new sentence, with a much larger debt (Matthew 18.34,35). The merciful obtain mercy, and those who lead their offender to repentance and forgive them are treated in the same way. Follow the example!

David only did not prove death by the sentence that he had declared against the man in Nathan’s parable because God does not act according to what we say, but according to His mercy and love. However, this act opened the door of his house so that evil would enter in his family, and as he declared so it happened. Nowadays, whoever confesses his mistake finds forgiveness, and then he is protected against the devil’s actions.

When David learned that his act was discovered and that his evil against Uriah would be costly, he recognized his transgression, confessing that he sinned against the Lord. Since he lived in the Old Testament, in the time when the blood of Christ was not in operation, he had to pay for what he did. Today, God forgives and purifies us without any cost.

In Christ, with love,

Righteous and merciful God! We cannot allow our minds to be influenced by something or someone who might lead us to fall in the enemy’s traps. We want to remain being Your faithful servants.

We cannot be evil like the man in Jesus’ parable, who obtained his lord’s forgiveness, but at the same time, did not want to forgive his debtor, who owed him much less.

As You lifted up David, listen to the prayer that my readers and brethren are doing now. Since we are living in the grace, give him the gift of repentance, so that he might obtain Your forgiveness.
