And tore the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it to you; and yet you have not been as My servant David, who kept My commandments and who followed Me with all his heart, to do only what was right in My eyes. 1 Kings 14.8

It is good to be careful to listen to the Lord’s words, for when He gives you a commandment, He also provides you the instructions and the power to fulfill it. Jeroboam received the order to divide the kingdom of David, because of the idolatry of Solomon and his son Rehoboam, who succeeded him to the throne. He was not a rebel for his own cause, but followed the divine orientation in order to create the Kingdom of the North, with the name of Israel (1 Kg 11.31).

Rehoboam prepared himself to take the kingdom of Jeroboam, but he was impelled by the Most High. When the Most High gives a blessing, no one can take it away. However, even before the Lord’s action, there are some who still doubt Him. Do not think you are better than others. Everything that He does for us is part of His eternal plan and because of mercy (1 Kg 12.24).

If you do not watch, the devil will use one of his infallible weapons – fear. Therefore, whenever you fear something bad, rebuke it. Fear will lead you to make wrong decisions. The man of God should only act by faith; on the contrary, he will give way to the enemy (1 Kg 12.27; Prov 29.25).

Jeroboam had the courage to challenge the Lord, obeying a diabolic plan. Though he was successful, this king was not unpunished. He did two golden calves and put them in strategic places: Bethel and Dan. Thus, he thought he had preserved his kingdom, but he fell in the hands of demons, which harmed even his family (1 Kg 12.28).

The Most High sent a last chance to bring Jeroboam back: one of his prophets went to Bethel, and prophesied before the king, facing the altar that was raised to confront the Almighty. He asked the prophet to pray for him to come back to normal. However, even with his miracle, Jeroboam did not ask for God’s mercy (1 Kg 13.2).

There are people who do not come back to genuine Faith even after they receive a miracle. The king saw the altar break and the ashes fall. He became lame and was healed by the prophet’s intercession, but still did not repent. Thus, he and his children had a tragic destiny. The story could have been another (1 Kg 13.4-6).

The loss of the wicked will always be great. Jeroboam could have been a king like David. However, he was condemned to the eternal flames. How many people, because of some more money, an extramarital affair, a title or something of the sort, let themselves be dominated by the demon! If that king had acted like David, he would have been an example for us all (1 Kg 14.7-11).

In Christ, with love,

Righteous Judge! We need to learn with You what to do in order not to be defeated by the enemy, who desires to destroy us. Many times, people are blinded. Only by Your mercy, Lord!

What happened to Jeroboam must serve as an example for those who have not obeyed you, for their end will be the same as the rebels’. If we obey Your orders, the evil one will not reach us or be able to touch our family.

Jeroboam could have done good things for millions of people. If he had acted like David, his example would have been copied for many centuries. Thus, Your people would have been successful in all things. Therefore, we ask for Your help and grace, for we do not want to sin, but to serve You.
