So David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he and his men, each man with his household, and David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal’s widow. 1 Samuel 27.3

God cared for David because he was obedient to His voice. This will also happen to those who act this way. We cannot disagree with Him who knows everything and is love. So when you know the Lord’s purpose, bend to it at once. He would never give her any mission that would not bring her honor and good reward. Trust in the Lord and be established.

Not much is known about the 600 men who followed David. Undoubtedly, however, this group was not just soldiers. Each had a family, and all were under David’s care. A leader always has many “helpers” and needs to support them. The Lord never forsakes the righteous nor lets their offspring beg for bread (Ps 37:25).

The Philistine king suddenly saw an army enter his territory, as countless people accompanied the son of Jesse. Achis was good and helped that caravan. Probably those men with David frightened the locals; after all, Israel always warred against the Philistines. That was cause for concern!

The future king of Israel had taken his wives Ahinoam the Jezreelite and Abigail, who had been wife to Nabal, the hardhearted man. David’s mighty men did not leave their families at Saul’s mercy, for that would be like giving them over to the evil persecuting king. But there was a purpose in the shepherd’s going to the enemy territory.

David fought the wars of the Lord. As such, he had to do several things to fulfill his mission: everyone’s survival and his troop morale. It is necessary for Christian household heads to strive for this truth to be confirmed in the sectors of their lives. God is faithful to those who are faithful to Him!

We will never understand why the Lord will let us face trials and great challenges, such as those David experienced. However, we will never be abandoned by our heavenly Father, who has a beautiful title: faithful. What would Saul do when he heard David’s decision? Would he go after his opponent in the nation that was always at war with Israel, or would he stop pursuing him? Saul’s choice ended man’s terrible nightmares after God’s own heart.

The Most High still had much to teach His servant, as well as to meet his needs and those of his people. After all, God provides all of them to those who trust in His Word. If you have been in trouble, pray, for whoever cries to the Lord gets an answer!

In Christ, with love,

Oh father! We do not know Your plans until you reveal it to us. From the moment You tell us where to go and what to do, it is our responsibility to believe. King David did not cower, but was a servant.

His going to the king of Gath must have made the Philistines gap, for how was the Israelite hero who destroyed their hero, the giant Goliath, in his hands now? But your unfailing plan would ultimately show your reason.

We must always obey Thee. The disobedient will pay a high price, for this is like betrayal, which you do not like. Help us walk with you. So our conduct will be right before Thee! Amen!
