27/07/2017 - DON’T PERISH IN PUNISHMENT

When the morning dawned, the angels urged Lot to hurry, saying, “Arise, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city.” Genesis 19:15

Those people who postpone departure from their evil ways may lose the opportunity to spend eternity by the Savior’s side in Heaven. Sin may impart pleasure to one who has fallen into temptation but no Christian must allow iniquity to master their life.  We are the light of the world and as such we have to shine everywhere we are. Our testimony must take many to salvation.

Lot believed in the angels’ words and tried to convince his sons-in-law. But they didn’t believe. In their reaction we see a threat that stalks the saved that do not worry about their children’s choice of spouse. Eventually, among the wicked there are those who loosen up their zeal for the divine requirements and pay no heed or mind to or with who will marry into the family.

The moment’s urgency was pressing down, since Sodom would be destroyed by fire and sulfur that would rain down from Heaven. The rich and the citizens of the so called safe countries, scoff at the idea that Jesus will return and remove us from this wonderful world.  They even laugh when we say this. With their minds focused on material wealth they could care less.  However, when tragedy strikes they seek out a church. Be careful! The Lord might return today!

The Bible reports that Lot and family expected God to have a change of heart. They had worked a whole life time to make, accumulate and to save the fruits of their labor. But nevertheless they would have to leave everything behind and take only their clothing that they wore and a few personal items. Perhaps God would change His mind if those that had become blind returned to repent and seek forgiveness.  This was not to be. The angels had to take Lot and his family by their hands.

The king of Sodom and its citizens had already heard about the God of Abraham, as they saw how with the 318 servants all were freed from the 4 kings.  But this was not enough to convert them. In Brazil, we see many families whose members were healed or received blessings by the Gospel but the majority does not leave their ancient traditional religion and its beliefs, no matter which, and don’t come to the Truth.

The time to destroy was upon them and the angels had to remove Lot, wife and daughters from the iniquity of that land in order to save them from the imminent destruction. They had to leave suddenly or else they would perish. They were adverted not to look back but Lot’s wife ignored the warning and on looking back turned into a statue of salt. Often times, many who are saved, and were looking for an inspiration, look back over what they used to do and become statues of faith.

The licentious practices of Sodom were in the hearts of Lot’s daughters. So much so that they were lead into temptation and to preserve their father’s seed they made him drunk with wine and slept with him. This way, two nations were born that would later bring suffering to Abraham’s descendants. Take the ways of the world out of your heart!

In Christ, with Love,

God, Fulfiller of Promises! Lot did not perish in Sodom by a very small margin. Had he remained a few more years in that place he might have lost himself in their practices and habits. The daughters had none of the care of the saved.

Since they were delaying their departure, Your angels hurried and led them far away from the city that was about to be destroyed. Today many are wound up in the confusions of the world that it is very hard to notice the difference between the saved and the lost. Mercy, Lord!

That Lot’s wife’s lesson may remain live in Your people’s hearts, especially those who look back on in the past for inspirations. We can’t allow ourselves to be swept by the error of the lost because we are made anew and the old things have passed away and are left behind.
