13/08/2017 - ESAU’S CHARACTER FLAW

Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Padan Aram to take himself a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, “You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan. Genesis 28:6

Seeing that his brother obeyed their father by going to Padan Aram, Esau soon showed his negative character. Now Jacob had the blessing of Abraham and should therefore be very careful, so as not to step out of God’s planned framework. Now Esau tried even harder to upset his parents.   Undoubtedly this is not the nature of one that has the anointment of the Almighty.  The next events will show that Rebekah was right in believing what the Lord had told her and helping her younger son.

Esau soon discovered that his father had sent Jacob to their uncle’s house, to take for himself a bride, because to Isaac’s eyes the daughters of Canaan were not suitable. That being said, Esau decided to do everything possible to provoke his parents; besides his wives that were the sadness and shame of the family he took Mahalath, Ishmael’s daughter, his father’s brother, taking the wrong path (v.9). Could he be an ancestor to Jesus by behaving in this way? God cannot use those who do not take heed to his Word.

The Lord does not bless those that want to be blessed but He does bless those who want to obey and to serve Him, by doing His bidding. Furthermore, the Most High can only perform in the paths of holiness even if the person prays with all their might, in prayer, fasting and giving great gifts and offerings to His work. Faith opens the door for someone to receive blessings, and not by the profound desire that that person has to possess it but by hearing and carrying out the Word (Romans 10:17) Halleluiah!

It is not hard to walk with God but the journey has to be carried out in faithfulness, and fear of the Lord. Those who do not obey the biblical standard, not worrying about what they say or do, cannot please the Heavenly Father.  The New Testament clarifies this matter by saying that without faith it is impossible to please God, for he who approaches the Lord must believe that He exists and is a rewarder of those who seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)  Amen!

After his irresponsible attitude, we hear little about Esau; Jacob, on the other hand, wrote a beautiful story. His journey to Padan Aram was filled with marvelous incidents. There, for example, he heard the Lord and saw angels going up and coming down a stairway to Heaven. One can notice that his steps were directed from Heaven because he always was where he should be. Likewise, those who do not come to the Most High nor do His will soon fall into oblivion.

Try to reach the standard of a servant of God as shown by Jesus in the Scriptures; or else you will not be standing at the Master’s right hand at the fulfillment of time. Surely, it is well worth it to do what pleases the Father and not what man desires. Never act guided on your feelings, but yes on faith. Those who were enlightened by the message of the Gospel must be strong in faith and must not believe any of the lies of the devil. Amen?

Esau was firmly resolved to irritate his father and mother, but Jacob had been chosen on his conception in his mother’s womb. Likewise, God made him to be a servant of His.  So do not ever lean or lend yourself to any sort of sin. If you want to please the Lord, prepare yourself to be ready!

In Christ, with Love,

Lord! We did not choose You, but You did chose us and named us to bear fruit.  We can’t go beyond what has been allotted to us; for this we need every help we can get from You, Your Grace, Your power so as not to let You down.

Esau could not be chosen, but You chose us.  We do not want to disappoint You or suffer loss on Jesus’ coming. Therefore, we deliver our path and our faith into Your hands, so that You might shape us according to Your love and Your mercy. Halleluiah!

That all our acts and our deeds may be for Your glory, Your praise and the enrichment of Your kingdom. Do not allow us to disappoint You by doing what is shameful. Help us to glorify You in all the opportunities You give us. Amen!
