And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me? Genesis 25.32

The strong should not abuse the weak, for both were made by God. It is not because someone is stronger that he can step in front of he who the Lord chose to serve Him, even if the laws of the Earth say so. The divine justice never fails he who believes in the Word. There is no use if someone tries to deceive you, for if you know your rights in Christ and vindicate them before the Most High, you will recover what was taken from you.

There were twins in Rebecca’s womb. There, they fought for something that concerned our happiness. God saw everything, and when the mother asked why that should happen, the Lord said that two peoples were being formed in her womb, but the younger would prevail. Listen to the revelation from God in His Word, for undoubtedly, it will prevail. He knows everything, so His declarations always come true.

Rebecca feared God and kept everything in her heart, imagining what would happen. After the Lord spoke, she was certain that that word would not fail. Thus, Jacob would be the responsible for continuing the seed of Abraham to the Messiah. Your feeling when you listen to the Word or read the Bible should be to obey whatever God speaks. Obey Him if He tells you to change something in your life. Believe, because the Most High is already acting in your favor.

One day, as Esau returned from the field, he was starving and asked Jacob for some red stew that he was preparing. Now, Jacob saw at that moment an opportunity to gain the birthright that had been robbed from him still on his mother’s womb. He negotiated and had Esau’s word that the deal was made. On this way, for some red stew, Esau sold his birthright that he had gained forcefully. Thus, Jacob was then blessed by his father.

I have already heard famous preachers accusing Jacob to be a thief, for he robbed the birthright from his brother. This is not true. Whoever negotiates a good or a right must give what he sold. In Esau´s case, he sold it to Jacob and received in return. It is very courageous from a brother in Christ – especially from a Minister of the Gospel – to refer to the patriarch of the Hebrews, a man who walked righteously before the Lord with so many evidences, as a thief and cheater.

A man’s word is above his actions. Jacob knew how to wait for his time, so that he could obtain what had been robbed from him on his mother’s womb. He left the womb with his hand grasping Esau’s heels, seeming to mean that one day, he would receive back what he lost by force. Afterwards, Esau sought repentance with tears but did not find it. Be careful so that you do not despise the gift of God. If you do so, you will not receive it back. Amen?

Esau’s attitudes proved that he did not serve to be a man from whom the Savior would descend. He married two foreign women just to cause wrath on his parents. Some years later, when Jacob was returning to Canaan, Esau went to meet him with 400 armed men (Genesis 32:6). He did not do any harm because Jacob fought with God in prayer, and the Lord changed Esau’s heart.

In Christ, with love,

Lord, Unfailing Judge! We cannot judge, for there are unknown facts that can lead us to a wrong decision. Apparently, Esau was the owner of the blessing, but You see things from the very beginning, and since You are just and unfailing, You make justice triumph.

Rebecca was stunned with what was happening in her womb. She heard from You that she was going to give birth to twins, and that the older would serve the younger. She kept that in her heart, and after she saw that her children had grown up, she knew that the seed of Abraham would come from Jacob. Your Son could not come from Esau.

Let us be spiritual to discern the truth in all matters. Thus, we will not err or give the right to he who doesn’t deserve. You see the heart, inside the mind, and therefore You are the Only One who can guide us. Help us to never be unrighteous. Thank You!
