10/08/2017 - ESAU’S INDIGNATION

And Esau said, “Is he not rightly named Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright, and now look, he has taken away my blessing!” And he said, “Have you not reserved a blessing for me?” Genesis 27:36

Esau would have to learn to not neglect what the Lord gives and to seek more and more the divine instructions.  Acting this way, the blessing would be confirmed and fully understood.  He was not forced or obligated to sell his birthright and even though the price was low, the deal was sealed and so he had to conform.  Those who serve God have to honor their word, even at personal sacrifice, when closing a deal; however, Jacob’s brother attitude showed no respect for the truth.

Esau disdained the value of the birthright statute when he sold his rights for a plate of red stew. This is the price he thought fair and if it had been a mountain of gold he would still be scorning just the same.  Esau should have recognized that Jacob was fair. On negotiating his blessing, Isaac’s favorite son, gave Jacob the right and the power to fight to preserve it and to win all the blessings inherent to the acquired right.  It is wrong to give one’s word and later to not want to keep it.

No one should boast of what was received, because if they are not careful others may take their crown away.  (Revelation 3:11) Another most important fact is that those who do not act according to the Word are not correct before the Lord. God’s gifts are irrevocable but His work should suffer no loss because of one who is careless.  Be careful, keep vigil and always pray over the blessings received in order to understand their purpose and to keep them in your possession.  In Esau’s case, his indignation was unjustifiable.

When the day arrived for Isaac to transfer Abraham’s blessing, Jacob grew fearful. The matter was very sensitive.  He had been born with his hand on his brother’s heal, so they named him Jacob – supplanter– but the fear of God in his heart made him shake and his mother had to encourage him.  In Rebecca’s attitude we have an example of what the Holy Spirit does with us, because we usually waiver or falter before the opportunities but the Lord encourages us!

Those who take Esau’s words as true should reflect and meditate and reconsider because as a man he did not fear God.  Even Esau’s own father didn’t declare that Jacob had stolen his brother’s birthright but had acted with subtlety.  I think even Esau might have agreed in a moment of rage but later came to a different conclusion.  Many years later, on meeting Jacob, he cried as he embraced his brother.  Never condemn a servant of God.

In truth, it is never good or wise to condemn anybody because as Jesus himself said, by your words shall you be justified and by your words you shall be condemned (Matthew 12:37). Besides, judge not lest ye be judged (Matthew 7:1), and yes bless that you may be blessed.  We must observe everything that the Lord says because it is true and will never bring us condemnations or curses; to the contrary, it will protect us from the enemy.  In the case of Jacob and Esau, if God said that the greater would serve the lesser who could say otherwise?

Examine all that the Lord has said to you as they are decrees that concern you.  Prepare to present yourself to Him as a certified and approved laborer which will never bring shame. (2 Timothy2:15) What he said with respect to Jacob, before he was born, happened. The same will be in your life.  Believe it!

In Christ, with Love,

Father!  We have studied the lives of Esau and Jacob.  By Your word, we see that Esau supplanted Jacob still in his mother’s womb and was born first. You are righteous and did not approve this. However, later on, in wisdom, Jacob bought the birthright which had had been stolen from him.

That everyone who was harmed, stolen or set back in some way may be recognized as a winner when demanding in faith.  Even though they may not know how to recover their loss, may this person be blessed and honored by You.

You are true and righteous, so we await Your action.  See in Your work what is necessary so that injustice does not prevail, that lies are not believed or upheld but that Your Kingdom is truly and greatly magnified.  In your name we reject all evil. Amen!
