And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.

II Corinthians 9:8

The Church has been so much plagued by false doctrines! One of them has to do with prosperity. Such lie has been brought up by people with personal problems; people who lead others to think and act the same way as them; some of them, for instance, discourage marriage. How stupid of them to convince someone not to get married and not to accomplish a happy marriage life, whose pleasures were designed by the Lord.

When I was a boy, I heard people criticizing prosperity. Because I was poor, I came to hate the rich and, in my twisted understanding, I believed that if someone prospered he would go to Hell. So I was happy with my miserable situation. One day, however, when reading a message written by the evangelist T. L. Osborn about being rich, I was in shock because by quoting Ecclesiastes 5:19 he proved that wealth is a gift from God. I had never paid attention to that verse. However, I came to understand this truth when I read that the Almighty gives riches, wealth and power to some people for them to eat of it, to receive their heritage and rejoice in their labor. Immediately, I prayed for the Lord’s forgiveness and declared that I would seek this gift.

Wrongful teachings hold many people in the webs of the enemy. Now, we are meant to be fully supplied! In the past, the patriarchs did not live in poverty but as people to whom the Lord added more and more. Our harvest must be like Isaac’s for he sowed the land and reaped a hundredfold (Genesis 26:12-14). We must not allow Satan to rob us of the capacity of being blessed by the Father and to make the Church beg for its upkeep.

God’s children should not only have sufficiency in all things but also have an abundance in every good work. When the Lord commanded them to build the Tabernacle in the wilderness, He instructed them to use the very best even in its decoration (Exodus 25.1-9). He wanted His house to be beautiful and cozy. Today He does not do any different; after all, no shortage comes from Him, but abundance. So, do not think so small. As servants of the One who paves the streets of his city with gold (Revelation 21:18), why not believe that He will give us good resources to fulfill His purpose? The Father’s will is for us to abound.

Everything starts with obedience. That commandment that you deem to be of lesser importance may keep you from obtaining the divine promises if it is not fulfilled. No word that goes forth from His mouth shall return to Him void, but it shall accomplish what He pleases (Isaiah 55:11). Therefore, obey all He says, otherwise you will not obtain the fulfillment of what He has promised to you. He who serves the Lord based on His Word does not lack power to accomplish His will.

In Christ with Love,

R. R. Soares
