For I will defend this city, to save it for My own sake and for My servant David’s sake.

Isaiah 37.35

In his arrogance, Sennacherib, king of Assyria, came up against Judah, but the servants of the Lord prayed and became invincible. God’s answer to Hezekiah, through the prophet Isaiah, shows that the Lord will defend you as well. You are his property (1Peter 2.9), and a member of the body of Christ. The same way as God has not forgotten his promise to bless David’s descendants, he will do the same for you.

Because Sennacherib had been victorious against many nations, he thought he would overcome the servants of the Lord. The devil (who has always made people believe that the god they worship gives them victory) filled the heart of that wicked man to rise against the only true God. Sennacherib’s mistake was to think that the Mighty One was like the false gods that many people worshiped in those times.

All we have to do is call upon the only true God to be delivered from the devil, even though he considers himself omnipotent. In the eyes of men, there was no way out for Judah other than surrender, but not only did God’s answer provide comfort to his people but also solved their problem.

God said he would defend the city of Judah for his own sake and for his servant David’s sake. That is the same way he acts on our behalf: for his own sake – because we belong to the Lord, we were bought by the blood of Jesus – and for Christ’s sake, because he paid a high price to redeem us. So we have nothing to fear.

Since we belong to God, we can rest despite the threats of the evil one. In fact, in the presence of the power that the devil uses to threaten us, whether an illness that seems to have no cure, or a problem that seems unsolvable, the Lord prepares a table before us (Psalm 23.5). Therefore, do not fear, because God’s answer, as he did through Isaiah, will comfort your heart and defeat the enemy.

The Lord takes pleasure in fulfilling his promises and never forgets them. In addition, we are his children. So there is no reason to despair; all we need to do is pray and he will guide us through his path.

Do not forget that you are a member of the body of Christ, therefore the Lord would never abandon you, the same way as you would not allow, for example, an infection to take over your body and surely you would not refuse to undergo medical treatment. No one would like to lose an organ, especially an important one! The same way as the Lord loves his body, if necessary, he will send an angel to destroy whoever threatens you.
