For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.

Genesis 18.19

An important revelation in this verse is that God picked you to carry out his will. The Lord loves you so much that he has made his plan known to you, and now he will do for you whatever it is that you need. In addition to us having been chosen by Jesus, he also appointed us to bear his fruit (John 15.8), so that the Most High may answer all our requests.

Each person is responsible for their own children, and those who do not fulfill their obligations will render accounts to God on Judgment Day. We must tell our biological children, as well as our spiritual children, to keep the Lord’s commandments. To be holy, to respect other people’s rights, to preach the gospel, to pray for those who are lost, to help those who are weak are all things that keep us on the “road” used by God, which he see us walking.

No one is free from his duty of walking the path of the Lord, who then moves into action and blesses us. The popular saying “God writes straight with crooked lines” is a lie. We need to keep God’s law and never stray from his path. If we always act in accordance with his commandments, we will not get lost, nor will we fall into sin.

But we cannot act in a righteous manner if we do not walk God’s path. For instance, if a cause is not just, keep away from it; it will be just only if it is clearly revealed in the Scriptures. The enemy can try to persuade you to file a wrongful lawsuit against your employer and lie. But if you let the devil enter your life, your cause will no longer be just. So never stray from the path of justice, from the path of truth.

Those who are servants of God do not allow the devil to fool them; they are guided by the Word only. In fact, everything that starts with temptation ends badly. Something is good only when its beginning is grounded in the revelation of God’s Word. To be righteous is to act on that which God did for us: he sent his only son to die for our sins and give us victory over the devil.

Obviously, if we do evil and do not repent, if we do not make up for the damage caused to others, God will not be able to fulfill his promises in our lives. We are heirs of Abraham because Jesus took our sin upon him. Therefore, we are entitled to blessings, as long as there is nothing standing between God and us.

The Lord is always faithful (1Corinthians 1.9), as he fulfills all his promises. We must get rid of any sins dwelling within us. We must repent and ask God to forgive us. Then the good Word will be fulfilled.

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
