“Your words have been harsh against Me,” says the LORD, “Yet you say, ‘What have we spoken against You?’ Malachi 3:13

The Scriptures teach us much about our God’s sensitivity: Our Lord is a sentimental God. Jesus said that he who sees him sees God (John 12:45). Christ wept, got hungry and thirsty and was moved by what people said or did to him. Examine what kind of words you have employed when speaking to the Lord and see whether you have been rude, and ask Him for forgiveness. He feels attacked when you use harsh words against Him.

As we learn about God through the Scriptures we need to embed in our hearts that He wants us to be in a certain way. Whatever He is or has we can be or have as well. With Adam’s sin we lost a lot but with the work of Jesus in the cross we can resume the position we had originally: created in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26). Nothing can separate us from God’s love.

The Word shows us that our Father has feelings. He said, through Malachi, that the people of Israel had spoken harsh words against Him, which offended Him. He was saddened by those who said nasty things about Him instead of saying nice things that would make them victorious over all evil. He would have been much happier with those descendants of Abraham if they had addressed Him in a kind way. What words have you used in your prayers?

When Jesus wept upon Lazarus death, He showed God’s nature (John 11:35). However, He did not just stand there with His arms crossed; rather, He did what He should do. He expects the same from us. So if you have hurt Him with your complaints, if you have spoken harsh words against Him, it is time to change that. The Almighty expects us to learn from David and so many others He used in the past to write beautiful Psalms.

When you discover that you have not pleased the Lord in your declarations, change immediately. The truth is that without the light of Truth – the revelation of what is written – one cannot speak properly. It is through the Living Word we learn to speak in a proper way. Never stop learning how to make your confession and, then, when you are transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2) there will always be a feast in Heaven.

Do not insult the Lord by speaking to Him in a way that is different from what He teaches. He is not like us; He is the Almighty God who wants His children to learn the way of victory!

In Christ with love,

R. R. Soares
