And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.” The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed.

Matthew 8:7-8

When Jesus entered Capernaum, located on the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee, a centurion observed the miracles He was doing and came to the conclusion that God was working through His Son. Sometimes, when we want immediate results we start pleading God as soon as we preach the Word. Then, if no one wishes to convert, we start to think we have not been used by the Almighty or that people are too insensitive. However, the Lord’s servant must always let Him do the work.

When he looked for the Master, the Roman Empire’s official heard from the lips of the Lord the promise that He would go to his house and heal his servant who was paralyzed and dreadfully tormented. What better answer can someone receive when entreating God? After all, if He is with us, our problems have a solution. However, it is not Jesus’ physical presence that does the work, but rather our response to what He has spoken to our heart.

Practically everyone would be moved if they heard the same statement the centurion heard from Jesus’ lips. However, it was not more important than the revelation he had received for having observed the Lord’s ministration. That which God teaches you through Bible reading, preaching of the Gospel or meditation on His Word is what you must believe. Do not forsake the learning you obtain in the school of the Holy Spirit!

Even after hearing Jesus promise to go with him, the centurion chose to stick to what he had learned from God through his faith. It shows that we should not trade for anything what God tells us because what He has caused us to understand from the first day of our conversion stays with us forever. This is the light that will illuminate our path and the lamp that will show us where we should tread (Psalm 119:105).

Remember the new prophet who stood up to Jeroboam, the wicked king of Israel, and accepted another revelation beyond that which the Lord had given him, and for that very reason he was killed by a lion (I Kings 13:1-32). Never depart from what the Lord reveals. That which the Almighty teaches through His Word will never be changed or altered for any reason.

He who is truly of God knows, albeit faithful, the right time to act. Therefore, do not want any promotion other than the one that is in accordance with what you have learned through the Word of God. The Lord never teaches anything today just to change it tomorrow. He simply expands it.

The fact that the centurion believed in what He had learned through the divine Word made his servant be healed. Believe what the Almighty tells you, and at the same time, seek from Him the word that makes the difference. The Lord will never fail to answer you.
