In Judah God is known; His name is great in Israel. Psalm 76:1

The division of humanity in tribes, tongues, and nations was God’s plan. In every human settlement, He raised some to administer material needs and others to take care of spiritual things and minister His Word. Nowadays, some are sent to take the News of Salvation to a place where someone did not want to go, disobeying divine’s calling. Yet, those who are called and do not fulfil their orders will be made responsible for the souls that might be lost (Ez. 33:6).

In Judah, the Lord was known. In that tribe, there were always people who gave themselves completely to Him. There was no lack of miracles and spectacular deliverances, and there were many who fulfilled divine’s will with love and dedication. God does not choose individuals or nations randomly. He gives all people the opportunity to come to Him and to be faithful. However, only a few people do so.

The blessing that Jacob gave to his son Judah was prophetic. He said that his brothers would praise him and that the sceptre would never leave him, for the Messiah would come from his lineage. When the nation was divided in two, Judah was left only with Benjamin, but it became the most important kingdom. The other ten remaining tribes, that kept being called “Israel”, were almost entirely evil, and had their territory invaded in the days of Hosea.

From Judah came David, the grandson of Ruth – the Moabite that clung to Noemi and was the wife of Boaz. Under his kingdom, the nation was still united, and its borders were expanded. He dominated over other people, who paid taxes to him. After the division, the kingdom of Judah had kings that truly served the Lord. There were times that even those who were Israelites went to Jerusalem seeking for the Lord.

As we read Psalm 76, we learn that the Most High wants to be known in our homes too. Today, we may have Him as our Doctor, Provider and Lord that sanctifies us. With Him, problems cease to exist in our homes. Oh, if all people would dedicate themselves to understand how much the Father can do, He would be known in families as he was known in Judah. But in order to be so, it is up to us to seek Him.

God’s name needs to be great in the Church of Christ – the Lord’s Israel. We can’t live as poor people that need alms from heaven. The Almighty desires that we live like Jesus lived here in the world. He was always in communion with the Father, and that is why He walked all around doing what was good and healing the oppressed by the devil. By this Name, we will make wonders too.

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
