Then David consulted with the captains of thousands and hundreds, and with every leader. And David said to all the assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if it is of the LORD our God, let us send out to our brethren everywhere who are left in all the land of Israel, and with them to the priests and Levites who are in their cities and their common-lands, that they may gather together to us”. 1Chronicles 13.1,2

He who pays attention to the lifestyle of the wise is likely to become wise too. And when it comes to a person who is being used by the Lord, this possibility increases—significantly—because God’s hands are behind everything he does. However, the best thing is always to learn straight from the Lord. The truth is that his plans for each situation may not be the same, or there can be danger in some situations.

David was called by God a man after his own heart (Acts 13.22), meaning that he consulted with the Almighty God and followed his guidance. When God says something, or when he responds to a request made by us, it is not good that we do not take possession of what he said. Those who always give God lordship over their decisions will be successful.

The consultation that the son of Jesse conducted with those who had joined him to make him king placed his subordinates as responsible for listening to the Lord and deciding together with him. This is not lack of faith, but caution, since, in the heat of the battle, it is possible that we have not heard well about when to take certain decision, where and for what reason. Now, even in a proposal, the responsibility is ours.

Humility must always be the mark of those who do the will of God (1Peter 5.5). But even to show humility the servant of the Lord must seek God’s guidance to know the right time and then proceed. The Word of God says that the children cannot see the nakedness of their parents (Leviticus 18.7). This means that, if you always show doubt, those who are at your service may get a bad impression from your leadership.

David wanted a kingdom that had everyone’s consent, because the approval of the Most High had already been given. This way, he would make everyone responsible with him for the decisions taken. It is good to lead everyone to the same feeling, because this is how you annul the action of some people who are weak in their mind, or who are controlled by greed.

Under your rule, it is not good to have a group of people who hold a grudge against you, because, when you least expect, they may rise against you and they will no longer accept your authority—which will cause you either embarrassment, loss or pain. Besides that, when a leader needs to hide something from those who are under his leadership, this is not a God thing.

In Christ, with love,
