But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul. Hebrews 10.39

The instruction is clear: those who draw back in the faith totally displease the Lord. Therefore, even when everything says that you will fail, never retreat; otherwise, you will suffer the consequences. In the spiritual realm, drawing back from a fight, running from the enemy, or simply failing to face the powers of evil are a statement that you do not trust God.

The tribe of Ephraim had been manned by the Most High, but when the time came for battle, they were taken by fear and retreated (Psalm 78.9). How long it took God to prepare them for that battle, what weapons He put in that group of Israelite men, and what He had in mind to do for His people we will only know in eternity. However, they utterly displeased Him who is a Mighty Warrior, invincible in all His battles.

If the Israelites had not given up, their story could have been different; nevertheless, because they did not trust God, it is recorded in Scripture that they made the worst decision possible. If they had been courageous and conquered with the weapons that the Lord had granted them, they would certainly have been highly rewarded. The worst decision is to think that the enemy will win, for it is the same as saying that he can defeat the Lord as well.

Those who draw back do not please the Father. They will suffer for eternity. Imagine if a law was issued saying that anyone who retreated would be tied to a tree for 50 years! Everyone would avoid that attitude at all cost, wouldn’t they? Compared to an everlasting suffering, this punishment is like a drop of water, and all the drops of water that make up all the oceans equate to eternal martyrdom.

The truth of the matter is that drawing back or pushing forward is a question of trusting or not in the Lord. Those who draw back do not trust the Most High yet and, because of that, they accept whatever the devil lays before them. Now, he is a master at painting a terrible picture and persuading those whose faith is wavering. In the saving sacrifice of Jesus, He has won all of our battles. Now it is up to us to fight until victory is confirmed.

Regardless of the threats you are faced with; do not ever sadden God’s heart with your attitudes. The examples recorded in the Bible are there to strengthen our faith. Therefore, never let the fear of failure guide you, for if the Lord is guiding your steps there is not the slightest chance of you being defeated. The devil knows that and that is why he lies so desperately.

Your soul must be preserved for eternity, so never say that you cannot or will not be able to accomplish something, otherwise it means that you have made a reckless decision. As a true soldier of the cross, march firmly until you finish your battles. Then, one day you shall hear from the lips of Jesus: ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world’ (Matthew 25.34).

In Christ, with love,

God, our Warrior! We will never come out defeated from the battles You allow us to fight. If defeat from a battle were an option, you would not let us enter it or would have prepared us better. When we flee from battle, we are announcing many follies unaware.

Every Christians should know that they ought to fear You and never draw back. There is not even one record of You telling Your people to flee the battle if the possibility of defeat is apparent. Not even the terrible Sennacherib was a match for Your servants.

We cannot be as Ephraim who dishonored Your Word. It could have been written of them that they defeated the enemy army with Your weapons. To where could we retreat? If we believe in You, we will never give you such grief. Father! We want to see You glad always.
