Then we will not turn back from You; Revive us, and we will call upon Your name.  Psalm 80:18

Asaph understood that the Lord was outraged with the heart of His people, and once he knew He is a gracious and merciful God, he interceded for the good of the Israelite people. The prayer said without faith or with a deceitful heart causes the Most High to be outraged with the person who speaks it. It´s one thing to sin without the intention to commit the error, and another thing is to pray in such a way that you provoke the Lord´s holiness. He will never answer this petition.

The situation got so serious, that the psalmist blamed the Most High for the misery of the people, saying that He gave them the bread of tears and gave them tears to drink (v. 5). However, this was a divine help to those who did not have wisdom nor had the conditions to pray. Therefore, if they didn’t eat from that bread, they would be destroyed. Without a doubt, the Lord gives us the true bread.

Asaph knew that it would be necessary that God restored the people for them to be saved, making His face blaze. The revelation of the Word is this blaze. Those who don’t receive this cannot remain firm in faith nor pray like they should. When you are enlightened with this light, you are qualified to receive from the Most High the fulfillment of all the promises.

After comparing Israel to a vineyard that has been destroyed, the psalmist prayed to the Lord to look down from the heavens and visit them. This is all man needs to straighten out in life. Those who do not see the light of life are walking without any guidance and only make mistakes. The purpose of the Most High in revealing us His Word is for us not to miss any prayer, and always make things right.

Lastly, the psalmist cried out for the people to be kept safe in life. What interests us is to be protected while still here in this filthy and dangerous world. After death, when we are received in Glory, we won’t need any of this, for there, evil will never come in and we will be out of the reach of all temptation and arrows of Satan. May God keep you safe now and forever!

Calling on the Name of the Most High, like the Israelites mentioned in this Psalm would do, is the way out from any devilish oppression. This is the way we are delivered from the evil´s capacity to strike us, and we undo all his work and we open the Heavens for the power of God to work in our favor. The important thing is to bring this same power from the days of Jesus here on earth to act for us and bless us. Thus, we will walk in the light of the Most High and we will have fulfilled the purpose of God to be part of His Body.

The Lord does not want us to eat the bread of tears or drinking tears in abundance, but He wants us to enjoy the best of this life. Be strong and firm in divine love.

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares

Lord, our Protector! To be kept safe by You is more than we can think of. If this doesn’t take place, we will turn away from the faith. Never cease to keep us safe. What we want the most is to continue as sheep of Your meadow and walk safely.

Keep us safe in life, in Your wonderful goodness, where evil will never harm us. If it is only after death, how will we give account of what we should have done with the abilities You have given us?

May misery never strike us and may Your vineyard be productive according to Your will. Thus, we will be Your happiness. May Your love cover us in such a way, that the tempter never comes near us. Amen!
