He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. Matthew 10.37

The warning made by the Lord must be taken seriously, for nobody should accept to be considered unworthy of Jesus. However, a small stumble already places us in a bad spiritual position. Therefore, who will take care of us? Do everything so that the evil one might not have you in his hands. Propose yourself to be considered worthy of having Jesus as Friend and Savior, for you cannot live without Him.

The Master is not telling you to despise father, mother, son or daughter, but that you should love Him more than the people who are very dear to you. When loving God is less than what we devote to any person or organization, something very wrong happens in the spiritual world – we are considered unworthy of being attached to Him. In the Kingdom of God, those who remain are only those who truly love the Lord, more than any person.

The sinner who anointed Jesus poured over Him a very expensive perfume. Judas, the traitor and also thief, saw that that product had a great value and complained about that waste. He did not do that for loving the Master (Jo 12.3-6). Whenever a “Christian” complains for having to give offers in church, he proves that he does not love the Father, for if he loved Him, he would do so willingly. The evangelization of the lost is what most pleases God, and your offers will always return multiplied (Luke 6.38).

It is incredible what most parents do for the sake of their children’s well-being. For example, so that they might have a better future, they put them in the best colleges. I am not saying this is something wrong. They act in such a way so that, whenever the kids become adults, they might have a good job and live well. What is sad is that many times, the parents do not think about the children’s eternal joy; only the temporal one. Now, if these kids do not serve God, they will be condemned for eternal perdition.

Those who love Jesus invest in the evangelization of the family, friends, and other people. Those who love Him visit people in hospitals, seek the lost to talk about salvation, and strive to give good testimony. Unfortunately, there are many who have not yet been born again, entitling themselves Christians and even “preaching” the Gospel. For those who do not love the Savior, the financial profit is more important than anything else. What about you?

Jesus asked Peter if he loved Him more than the other disciples, and the answer was yes (Jo 21.15). As He repeated the question three times, Peter confessed that Jesus knew all things (v. 17). Whoever has fallen in sin must prove that he loves the Master. Therefore, if the person is married, he must look for his half and tell what he did; if the person is single, he must confess it to his parents. If, as an excuse, he says that he will not tell them for not desiring to see them suffer, he does not love the Lord, for He is the Truth; therefore he is not worthy of Him.

Your dedication to the work of God proves if you love the Lord or not. How much do you invest in evangelization? What do you personally do in favor of the lost? When you are tempted, what is your answer? Are you capable of lying to “save your own skin”, or if you made a mistake, do you confess and pay the price? What grade would you give yourself in regards to what you do for the divine work?

In Christ, with love,

God, our true Father, we cannot deceive ourselves, hiding behind something small that we do so that others may believe that we love You. We need Your help so that we do not disappoint you, not fulfilling Your plans. Help us!

What we saw in this lesson is that father, mother, son and daughter are not supposed to receive more love than what we dedicate to You. We cannot deceive ourselves with the enemy’s temptations, which lead us to do more for our own family than for You. Mercy, Lord!

It would be good if everyone thought when was it that they gave a greater offering for Your house than gifts for their own kin. Do not let the enemy deceive us and lead us to despise You and Your work. Help us to love You truly.
