I greatly regret that I have set up Saul as king, for he has turned back from following Me, and has not performed My commandments. And it grieved Samuel, and he cried out to the Lord all night.  1 Samuel 15.11

Those who do not keep God’s commandments provoke the Most High with their attitudes. What He has entrusted them with is the best that could have happened to them; therefore never stop following His teachings, for they carry many good things for your life. If you are rebellious, you will never have access to God’s blessings. Therefore, when you do as you have been taught, you wonderfully and fruitfully join the Lord.

Saul was not seeking to become king, but he answered the call to accomplish a noble mission in Israel. Never despise your role in God’s work, even if you have been given the mission of cleaning the bathroom or reading each prayer request and praying for them. Everything God gives us is part of His immense and wonderful love for the members of His family. The rebellious and the lazy have no idea how much they are losing for not paying the attention due to the Lord’s calling.

It is no small thing what the Father will do for those who are called to be part of the holy ministry, because Jesus has made us kings and priests, so that we can fulfill the will of the Almighty here on Earth (Revelation 5.9-10). Although we do not understand the value of doing the small things, we ought to tend to them as if they were the most important, for the way we see things is not the way the Most High sees them. You will do good if you convince yourself that He always gives us the best.

Saul’s negligence led the Almighty to regret what He had done for him. Therefore, watch so that you do not lead Him to feel the same about you. Do not consider yourself important in God’s work, so that you do not make decisions that will displease Him. None of God’s purposes will be withheld from Him (Job 42.2), and, if you are delaying His dreams, no pleasure is worth the price you will have to pay for that.

Saul had made two mistakes: he stopped following the Lord and he did not do His will. It is incredible that someone would be crazy enough to stop following Him who is wise and perfect; however, this is exactly what has been happening with many. When a person fails to do God’s will he or she is like those who do not gather with Him, but scatter (Luke 11.23). Why should you do this and help the devil in a way that he should not be helped by anyone?

There is only one way to follow so that no pain will be added: to be zealous in doing all the commands the Most High has given us and we will see how rewarding it is to have the Lord rejoicing with us – His joy is our strength (Nehemiah 8.10). The rewards God gives those who do His will are beyond our imagination.

Not even Samuel’s grief and all-night-long petition were able to move the Lord from the decision He had made. To obey is better than sacrifice (1Samuel 15.22); besides that, when you hear the commandments and obey them you will enjoy the best of God for your life. Now is the time to pray, have a serious talk with the Lord and assume your position in Jesus.

In Christ, with love,

Dr. Soares

Holy God! We cannot be led by the lies of the enemy and make You regret the good you have done to us when You put us sovereign over all that concerns us. We must understand that our mission should always bring You praise.

Saul was not thinking of what You had prepared for him and, because of that, he was crowned king of Your people. If he had fulfilled his mission with trembling and fear, he would certainly have had a great reward for all eternity. However, he though only of himself and paid a high price.

Help us do what you have determined to us, so that we can see Your great deeds, things we have never thought of or could ever believe. Help us and keep us from frustrating Your blessed, beautiful and holy plan.
