O LORD, I have heard Your speech and was afraid; O LORD, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; In wrath remember mercy.

Habakkuk 3:2

God would never tell us something unintentionally. When He convicts us of the sin we are falling into, then we must take a stand against what we are allowing to be harbored in our heart, mind, dreams, desires, etc. We must turn away from error or He won’t be able to keep us from the nefarious work that the devil wants to do in us. You should not only be on the alert after receiving the divine admonishments, but you should also do something about it.

Imagine a Being who has more than 7 billion people to look after, knows everything and sees everything, takes care of animals, nature and the whole universe and this Being comes to you and speaks to you! Therefore, you should tremble and obey. Those who do not respect the Lord may attend church services, hear the Word, may be urged by the Holy Spirit but actually do nothing to change the lives they lead. One day, they will find out that it was too late to pray.

It is important to cry out for God’s work to be revived. If the members of the Body of Christ are in true communion, they will hear what God says about us and then they will intercede on our behalf. When the Almighty speaks to someone about someone else it’s because the latter is no longer heeding the Lord. So, the revived ones, those who are burning with holy zeal, will hear from the Lord and intercede and as a result God’s wrath will not touch us.

Pray, help and do God’s work because it needs to be known. The doctor, for instance, who sows the divine seed in his patients’ heart, is probably keeping them from doing wrong things in their lives. No matter who your neighbor is, take care of him, and upon bidding goodbye make sure you give him or her two “coins”: your love and God’s Word. That is obedience!

Habakkuk’s prayer was guided by the Lord and, in the same way He used that prophet, God is looking for intercessors so that when He is wrathful and ready to execute judgment, He may be merciful to a particular person. A little bit more and Abraham would have managed to spare the lives of thousands of people in Sodom and the neighboring cities. Plead for God’s mercy and He will use it in His decisions.

The Father will revive His work in your heart, but you must draw near Him, pray and meditate on everything He has shown you through His Word. That is the secret of your victory over evil!

In Christ with love,

R. R. Soares
