28/04/2013 - SAYING THE TRUTH IS GOOD FOR YOU

Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep Your word.

Psalm 119.67

The Word of God says that “a curse without cause shall not alight” (Proverbs 26.2), but very few people take heed to this declaration. If the enemy has acted in your life or in your home, you can be sure that he has found a door to enter. It could be something simple, like Job’s fear, or something more serious. Problems indicate that your fellowship with the Father is now broken and the devil has received permission to touch your life. In this case, you must ask for God’s guidance.

Jesus said to a sick man at the pool of Bethesda: “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you” (John 5.14). Sin had made him disabled for 38 years.

When someone is too proud to confess publicly his weaknesses, he is also preventing others from repenting, because many people, if they saw the courage of someone who has been forgiven, healed, or who has received any other blessing, speaking about their old life of sin, they would feel encouraged to abandon their sins. John Baptist only baptized people if they repented publicly; after all, repentance leads to the remission of sins (Mark 1.4).

Surely, the Lord allows his children to suffer so that they may change, repent from sin, which leads to destruction, and receive God’s forgiveness. When you commit sin, you are immediately disconnected from God’s presence.

And sins are not limited to cheating your spouse, acting in a dishonest manner or deceiving others. Those who fail to fulfill God’s Word are also separated from the Lord. Once he has revealed something through his Word, you must follow his directions. The obedient servant finds favor in the Lord, but those who do not obey him, bring upon themselves the seal that they do not love God.

Nothing is more important than learning God’s lesson. When the Lord speaks to us, he does not do it to put us down, but to straighten our paths and make us abandon all sin, which would allow the devil to carry out his evil schemes.

The secret is to always keep the Holy Word. So be wise and cautious by not despising that which the Lord has spoken to you. Today he acts as your defense lawyer. But if you do not listen to him, it will be useless for you to ask mercy on Judgment Day. Those who find themselves there will hear their sentence, and will not be forgiven or transformed. So what are you going to do?

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
