Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to stumble, and I do not burn with indignation?

2Corinthians 11.29

We Christians must understand the following truth: he who is saved is our brother in Christ. Such person is like a cell of the human body, which, if sick, will receive help from the other cells in order to be healed. But it is sad to know that someone who claims to belong to God takes pleasure in spreading the news that a saved person has fallen into sin. The one who befriends the evil one is an enemy of God.

How will my mind think straight or have peace if I feel pain in my fingers? The same thing will happen to my soul if I do not do something to help a brother who was entrapped by the devil. However, many people who are saved do not think in the well-being of those who are weak, or dominated by vices or sin. The declaration of Paul is for everyone.

It would be nice if all those who have been called by the Lord made an effort to walk down the path of righteousness. But, unfortunately, some people fail to watch and, despite Jesus’ warning, they fall again in the old traps of the evil one. Later they feel ashamed, regret and sorrow, when they see that their fellowship with the Father has been broken. We must help these people, though.

The Word of God says that sin lies at the door (Genesis 4.7), and no one has been granted immunity from sin. Each of us is responsible for watching and, in case we feel we are being tempted by the evil one, we must ask God for strength and help. Why should you allow yourself to be deceived by the devil? Why should you accept bribe, become addicted to drugs, resign to temptation or other sinful practices? To live in righteousness is infinitely better than any of those things.

Now watch out, because the devil will not only try to make you fall (which is already very sad), but also make you a reason for others to stumble. The devil knows that the person who has led others to fall will be condemned and, therefore he will offer you what you desire the most, so that you will play his game.

As members of the body of Christ, we must set the example and not speak as Cain, who did not consider himself a guard of his brother. The truth is that we must bear the pain of childbirth, as Paul mentioned. If you want to please the Lord, make the wholly-hearted decision to intercede for those who are weak in their faith.

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
