However, the hair of his head began to grow again after it had been shaven. Judges 16.22

For 40 years, the Israelites were surrendered in the Philistines’ hands, for they had done what was evil in the Lord’s eyes. Unfortunately, sometimes, the same history has been repeated in many of God’s children. Sin seduces them and leads them to eternal loss. Whoever has sound judgment must escape the temptations, for they almost always come with a “sweet voice”, delicate and tender, but with Satan behind it.

The Israelites knew that they could not play around with God, for He does not tolerate sin. If they disobeyed Him, they knew that it would happen the same as when they left Egypt. Since they did not give proper attention to what the Lord had spoken, they had to walk for 40 years in the desert. Now, once more, since they had despised the Almighty’s commandments, they were surrendered in the hands of the philistines, who oppressed them for more than 40 years. It is not worth to sin!

Not all of them did what was wrong, for many feared the Lord. However, unfortunately, since the faithful were together with the fool, they also had to submit to the dominion of their enemies. Certainly, the seed of the obedient cried out to the Lord, and thus, He listened to them, providing the escape. When the righteous cries out, the Father answers.

God heard the clamor of that people, and in order to bless it, He chose a couple from those who remained faithful to Him; and the wife was barren. Then, the Lord sent an angel to tell them that they would have a son, who would perform a noble mission. They would give birth to a boy that was going to be separated to God since his birth. He was chosen to save the people from the Philistines after he grew up. Thus, Samson was born, to become the deliverer of the children of Israel (see Judges 13).

On his youth, Samson assumed his role, but also was entangled in a sinful life, which was not in the plans of the Almighty. Since a young age, the Spirit of God begun to work in Samson’s life, but lust and prostitution led him to do evil. Many people who are called for a beautiful mission will have the same destiny as this hero of God’s people if they do not leave sin. Have mercy, Lord!

In many battles, Samson showed why he had come to the world, for the Spirit of God would take over, giving him an uncommon strength. Thus, he caused loss and fear to the Philistines, who wanted to destroy him at all costs. Though it may sound impossible, this hero met with a heroine of the enemy and fell in love for her. Why did he do this, if he knew that that would destroy him?

Samson’s eyes were pierced, and he became a slave. Then, he noticed that his hair began to grow once again. When he was summoned to be mocked by the prince of the philistines, he used that opportunity to cause the greatest destruction of his enemies during his entire life. Yet Samson could have done more if he had observed the limits imposed by the Word.

In Christ, with love,

God of power! In the Scriptures, we find people that did not know how to keep Your commandments, and therefore, they frustrated You. May this never happen with us, for we must have the obligation to do Your will!

The Israelites faced 40 years of oppression in the hands of the Philistines. Why didn’t the people of God obey Your commandments? Unfortunately, those who should have been eradicated from the land became lords.

Help us to be sons that honor You, servants that obey You, and witnesses that never lie. The lost need us to be fulfillers of Your orders, so change our lives.
