And so it was, when King Hezekiah heard it, that he tore his clothes, covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the Lord. 2 Kings 19.1

The threat was enormous, strong, and disproportionate at the same time. Who could face the king of the strongest empire in the world that had already lasted for 13 centuries? Sennacherib dominated many nations and did not find anyone to face him and his interests. He did as he pleased, and in his prepotency, he decided to extend his dominion to the territory that the Lord had given to His people.

Sennacherib’s decision was not to shame only Hezekiah, but also the only and true God. How foolish! That arrogant leader did not know that the ones that the Lord raises to lead His people have free and continual access to Him, and if they speak to Him, He comes to their aid. After all, the Most High listens to those who believe in His promises when they vindicate their rights. Therefore, do not accept threats in your life.

The Assyrian king had not found anyone who was truly a servant of God. May the enemy find in you a Christian that does not give up your rights in Christ. Never let a lie from the devil prevail against you, or any of your rights. God gives those who serve Him a capacity in prayer that is capable of destroying even the most well prepared army from the enemy. The power of the servants of the Lord is immeasurable.

No child of the Most High must take heed to what the enemy says, for as he is confronted by the evil one, he can resist his aggression and prevail against Satan’s will. This is why we have received the power of the Holy Spirit. With Him, we can defeat any attack from hell. These are not only beautiful words – they put God’s power into action!

In those times, where historical events represent what happens today, it was common to tear the clothes in a demonstration of humility and trust in seeking the Lord. Nowadays, we must tear our hearts so that all sin that has caught us is taken away (Jl 2.13). Thus, we can defeat the enemy’s temptations. There is no way for us to be defeated if we have the Almighty at our side.

There are spiritual clothes for us to cover our spiritual nudity. Hezekiah wore them, and they meant humility and submission to the Lord. The clothes that we must wear in prayer – the commandments and promises that we receive from the Lord – are clothes of brave servants. As we wear them, we are equipped to fight against the forces of evil (Eph 6.11-18). As we are clothed with all the armor of God (Eph 6.11), we are indestructible in our battles.

Those who persevere in the house of God have the conditions to solve all their problems. Before the Lord, all that you need is to present Your requests, and if they are according to His will, He will not let you empty-handed. The heavenly Father has pleasure in executing justice when His servants accomplish what is due to them.

In Christ, with love,

Lord of Hosts! You are a Warrior, and when Your children beg for Your favor, You fight for them to give them victory. Thus, it is impossible to keep being oppressed or ashamed. You attend all of those who come to You in the Name of Jesus.

The perverse Sennacherib, being used to shame the gods of other nations – who were no gods at all – thought that he could shame You and humiliate Your servant. However, as Hezekiah knew what he should do, the arrogant Assyrian monarch was the one who was left ashamed.

Look, oh God, what has troubled my friend. Look what he has gone through for not understanding what he should do. But now, with the enlightenment of Your Word, this person is free and ready to enter the battle and be victorious. May all this be for Your glory!
