For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing; my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away. Psalm 31:10

Though King David went through many hardships, they were not greater than what we all face. No one is unharmed by temptations, for the devil attempts to drive God’s servants away from His presence. Sadly, some people let themselves be persuaded by Satan’s lies, fall into temptation, and then face a period of sadness and spiritual weakening. If this has happened to you, don’t fool yourself saying, “I have sinned, what can I do?” Repent and return.

If your problem is sin – which is something very serious – you can deal with it. In David’s time, the devil had not been defeated yet, and sin was only covered. But for us who live after Calvary, it is a different story. You only need to confess your sins so that the Lord forgives and cleanses you from all transgression. If you have done harm to anyone, find the person and make things right.

Whoever does not watch for his spiritual life and falls in transgression goes through terrible moments of agony. However, it should not be so, for Jesus promised that we would receive power as His Holy Spirit descended over us, and that we would be His witnesses (Ac. 1:8). Through the baptism of the Holy Spirit, we receive the same power that was on the Lord to never give in to the devil (Ep. 4:27).

David recognized that his iniquity made his strength fail. This can happen to anyone who does not hold fast to the divine Word. But if you have fallen, do not mourn because your strength is failing. Go straight to God and confess your sin. If you have caused spiritual, financial, physical, material or moral damage to anyone, you should confess it, ask for forgiveness, and repair your mistake.

If your ways please the Lord, he will make even your enemies to be at peace with you (Pv. 16:7). So do not let the evil one convince you that the person whom you have sinned against will never forgive you. Even if you are taken to court, God will give you strength to endure the punishment. The best thing is to be always in peace with the Lord. Therefore, do not let yourself be taken by the devil’s lies.

Do not allow your life to be spent in grief, or else it will destroy your dreams. It will make your life a burden too heavy to carry, and after some time, you will not want to stand up and assume your place in Christ anymore. Something even worse will happen to your moral structure. You and your family need you to be standing firm.

In Christ, with love,

R.R. Soares
