Indeed I have taken much trouble to prepare for the house of the LORD one hundred thousand talents of gold and one million talents of silver, and bronze and iron beyond measure, for it is so abundant. I have prepared timber and stone also, and you may add to them. 1 Chronicles 22:14

After David felt that the house of the Lord should have been built, he took his mission so seriously that he compared it to “much trouble”. He did not give rest to his eyes, and soon worked to prepare the materials. Then, when it was time to begin the construction, the king “passed the baton” to Solomon, his son, under the Most High’s decision. However, as a zealous father, he gave all the information that his son needed in order to be successful.

David’s love for God is unquestionable. It was proved when he heard from the Father that his son would be the builder of the temple. He did not argue, and gave to Solomon all that he had prepared. This is how everyone who really loves the Lord and His work should proceed, for those who are truly saved are known for the care that they have with divine calling, both here and abroad.

The king had provided abundant materials so that the construction would not stop for lack of resources. This teaches us that we must have the same care with what God puts in our hands. Being zealous, ready, and wholehearted is necessary for the work of God, or else the Most High may choose another, and we may lose the blessing. It is a privilege to be called by Him.

When David heard from the Lord that he would not build the temple, he did not cry or complain. It does not matter who the Most High uses, but that the divine work is done properly. As a servant, the king knew that God had fair reasons to give to another the mission to build the place that would be one of the great wonders of humanity – from where the Father would bless all people.

Straightaway, the man after God’s own heart “passed the baton” to his son, according to divine instruction. He understood that the Lord’s decision should be fulfilled. The hand of the Almighty had used him many times before to bless the Israelites. Now it was time for another person to do the work. This is how everyone who desires to be a true servant of the All-Powerful should behave. After all, I am certain that He would have blessed any other person that He might have chosen.

David opened his heart and gave to Solomon the instructions that he knew for the great temple to be built. If he had kept them for himself, he would have offended the Lord and been separated from Him. Be careful so that your heart is not evil towards whoever it may be; and specially, towards the Father.

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
