And they told him, saying, “Joseph is still alive, and he is governor over all the land of Egypt.” And Jacob’s heart stood still, because he did not believe them. Genesis 45:26

Jacob almost died when his sons told him what had happened to Joseph. Many years went by and he still didn’t know the truth. It is very sad to see people being deceived, especially when these people are men and women of God; therefore, those who cause this are in great danger. However, God is wonderful up to the point of “protecting” the deceivers so that they may repent.

Envy had caused Joseph’s brothers to try to kill him, and later, because of 20 silver coins, they sold him to a group of Ismailis – who got a great deal at the Egyptian slaves market with the son of God. Joseph’s brothers didn’t listen to their consciences and to the voice of God! In a cruel and malign way, they lied to their father, the one who possessed the blessing.

Many years later, Joseph’s brothers didn’t recognize him when they went to buy wheat in Pharaoh’s land. Not even the money Joseph’s servants hid inside their bags made them remember the money they earned from selling their brother. Their solid hearts didn’t allow them to imagine where Joseph could be, when they went to Egypt to buy wheat.

After they saw that sin is never worth it, and that God had fulfilled what Joseph had said to them, they repented and cried together with him who had been sold and had become the prime-minister of the world’s wealthiest land back in those days. Joyfully, they went to tell their father the good news. As Joseph forgave all of them, a huge weight was removed from their backs.

This was the best news Jacob could ever receive; when he heard that Joseph was still alive, his heart started beating so fast that he almost died. But the truth is that he couldn’t die, because as a prophet, he was responsible to pass on the blessing to his sons – including Joseph. We will never know what went through Jacob’s heart when he gave them his blessing. I wonder if he was still waiting for his son to come back, and was that the reason why he was so amazed?

Jacob was so excited because the Lord almighty didn’t allow him or his son to die before the truth was revealed. This way, he confirmed that the God who took care of him and with whom he made an alliance in Bethel was faithful. In his heart, he saw that Joseph’s dreams were prophetic, and because of that he was almost taken away by such joy inside his heart.

One of the things that stands out in this story is that those who are called by the Lord can face the worst trials and adversities, but they will see the justice of God fulfilling what was promised to them. The Lord is faithful and He will fulfill everything He has declared. Be firm and courageous and fight until the end, because the Father is already working.

In Christ, with love,
