For the LORD will not forsake His people, for His great name’s sake, because it has pleased the LORD to make you His people.

I Samuel 12:22

The Israelites had asked the Lord for a king and it did not please God because the Almighty wanted to be their King forever. However, because they insisted on it, their wish was granted. Then, Samuel gave them important recommendations to avoid stumbling and becoming prey of the enemies who wanted to destroy them. They should fear the Lord and serve Him heeding His voice, following Him and not being rebellious to His commandment.

These instructions are meant for all people everywhere. Those who abide by them will obtain God’s favor, but he who does not listen to God’s voice and is disobedient to the commands of the Lord will have the Almighty’s hand against him. To seal his word, the prophet gave the children of Israel an example they would never forget: he announced that the Most High would do something that He had never done before, and it terrified them.

It was wheat harvest season, so what they least expected was that it would rain. However, Samuel said he would call to the Lord for Him to send rain, so that the people could realize the wickedness of what they had done. He who does not obey God’s voice offends Him, so it is best to pray for the Holy Spirit to guide us in the Word in order for us not to make requests to the Lord that might displease Him.

The prophet prayed and the Lord sent thunder and rain, which caused people to fear the Lord and even Samuel. Now, that’s how the ministers of God should live: in the divine presence, seeking directions to do certain works. In so doing they will get people to respect their ministries, which will prevent problems in their congregations. If the strong hand of the Almighty is not present, honoring the mission that we have received, we may not be respected.

When they saw the rain falling when it should not, the Israelites asked Samuel to beg God to make it stop. So fear seized them and caused them to respect the prophet and the Word. Samuel comforted them by saying that they did not need to be afraid because despite the wickedness they had done, they had not turned aside from following the Lord. However, from that moment on everyone should mend their ways and stop going after things that do not profit or deliver and serve the Almighty with all their heart.

The great Name of the Lord would prevent Him from forsaking them. This is the type of message we are proclaiming today, contradicting the nay-say preachers who keep saying that those who have little faith will be abandoned by the Almighty. Now, we have to give positive messages, fraught with the manifestation of divine power so that people become stronger and are not swayed by false speeches. After all, we were chosen out of God’s will.

In Christ with Love,
