and say to him: ‘Take heed, and be quiet; do not fear or be fainthearted for these two stubs of smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria, and the son of Remaliah. Isaiah 7:4

The eternal plan of the Lord prevails over men and their procedures. Ahaz did what was not good in the eyes of god, walking in the ways of the kings of Samaria and going to the extreme of making his son walk through fire, an abominable practice in the eyes of the Almighty (2 Kings 16:3). However, since he was King of Judah – although God disapproved of his way of living – he received a divine message, saying he should not fear Pekah or Rezin, which were coming against Judah.

The message was delivered by way of the prophet Isaiah and his son, Shear-Jashub and instructed the king to be careful (Isaiah 7:3,4).  This message is valid in these days to all those who lead a ministry in the work of God.  The King of Syria had convinced the monarch of Israel to ally with him, because the former’s intention was to take over Judah, and destroy it completely.  This way they could divide the southern kingdom between them. The house of David would not be shaken, but it was necessary that Ahaz be extremely careful with what he said and did.

The prophet even said that the King of Judah should be calm and still. In the face of any attack from the devil, do not be shaken, but try and meditate and trust in the Word.  There is no way for the enemy to gain his desire over the people that have been separated, if they are careful with what they say and do and remain still before the provocations of the enemy. Nothing that is planned or prepared by the devil for your life will prosper or thrive; to be sure, it is sufficient to trust in what the Lord has spoken concerning you in the Scriptures.

Ahaz also should not fear.  This is basic.  Even if the fear is only in your heart, it has enormous power to weaken you.  This feeling also opens the door for the adversary. The biblical examples of those that fear are reminders for us not to accept this spirit in our being.  We must, to be sure, be rooted and strengthened in the Word and not recede in our observance and compliance to the directions therein.

Another important point is to not give up hope in your heart.  The battles that you must face are not for your defeat but yes for your victory.  The Father is in control of everything even when the circumstances show otherwise.  The truth is: when the devil plans against the people of God, He has already invested His own with the authority to undo any of the enemy’s intentions.  Therefore, in any and all ill seeming circumstances do not grow faint.

Rezin King of Syria and the Samarian leader were nothing more than two smoking firebrands.  Although they burned in anger they were no match for Judah who had God to their rescue.  Ahaz would have to listen to Isaiah’s message in order not to be defeated by the other two.  The same assistance will come to those that have and keep his Word and commands, when nothing will be impossible.  Those who do so will see divine favor at work.  Halleluiah!

The anger and rage of Rezin and Pekah, son of Remaliah, have no power over those who really and truly believe in the Lord.  When something similar happens to you, take up your position and declare your deliverance.  The good thing about all is that the waters of Shiloah, which flow gently, will come to your aid.

In Christ, with Love,

Lord!  Your counsel is the best for them that obey You, for they were designed for our well being.  Help us to be careful and not open our mouths like those that do not know You, but complain, swear and moan.

We need the ability to be still even before threatening things, so that evil can do us no harm or destroy us.  Why let the devil remove us from Your presence if with You we can win the battles?  To You be the glory!

The devil and his demons are nothing but fuming firebrands.  Certainly no harm will befall us.  The anger of the Rezins or the sons of Remaliahs, will never even reach us, for we are protected by the consuming fire that You are and we will not be touched.  Amen!
