And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number believed and turned to the Lord.

Acts 11.21

Because of persecution, Christians were scattered all over the world. But not all of them obeyed the Lord. Fortunately, the brethren from Cyprus and Cyrene acted in a more noble way and preached the Word to the gentiles. So the hand of God was with them and confirmed their preaching through signs and wonders. The awakening was amazing and many people believed and turned to the Lord. That is what God wants us to do today.

After the death of Stephen, the first Christian martyr, Christians of Jerusalem were scattered and, as they ran away from persecution, they announced the good news. Some people say that God allowed persecution to take place because otherwise Christians would have remained at the feet of the apostles, and people who lived far away would never hear the sweet message of the gospel.

It is important to note that they did not do exactly what the Lord had commanded, as they were preaching only to the Jews (v. 19). So Jesus’ commandment was not being fully kept. He had commanded the gospel to be preached to every creature. Today, in order for us to be fully obedient to God, we must not exclude some groups of people, because we were commanded to preach the gospel to everyone, without any discrimination.

It is hard to believe that there are children of God who rejoice in disobedience, but there are. We must rejoice, nevertheless, in obeying God. The brethren from Cyprus and Cyrene, for example, were careful to fulfill Jesus’ commandment exactly as it was, and they preached the gospel to the gentiles. As a result, a great number believed and turned to the Lord. Wouldn´t it be nice if the same thing happened today? Wouldn´t it be nice if we planted the good seed in the hearts of those who are lost?

The sign that we are pleasing God is when we witness his hands working miracles, wonders and healing. When people learn about what belongs to them in Christ, they experience what the gospel of the kingdom of heaven really is. There is a huge difference between the doctrine of men (statutes of any religion or church) and the true message that Jesus commanded us to preach.

The faith of the brethren from Cyprus and Cyrene caused that place to be “shaken” by the power of God. As a result, thousands of people left their dead religions to worship the living Christ. What Jesus accomplished through them was the same he would have accomplished by doing the work of God personally. In order for us to see the hand of the Lord at work, we need to obey his commandment.

No one can create a replacement for the Gospel, there is no such thing; the Lord is the only true God, and with him you can carry out the perfect will of the Father. He expects you to be a faithful servant and do the same thing those brethren did. Then you will see his hand at work in your life.

In Christ, with love,
