10/12/2013 - THE MESSAGE WE SHOULD PREACH

For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect. 1 Corinthians 1:17

It is a mistake to think that Christians should act as “public relations” of the kingdom of God. We should be nice to everybody, but we can’t lose an opportunity to preach His message that saves. Those who think they’re offending people when preaching the gospel are actually offending the Lord. And we know that we should never upset the Lord. Therefore, if you have a chance to preach, deliver the message with wisdom.

Those who are sent by God should always preach the Word of God. That’s why the Lord sent us His spirit in a very abundant way. He didn’t call us to respect the enemy’s works, but to condemn them.  It is a mistake to think that we should create a desire in people’s hearts to seek the Lord, because this is His job, and He knows how to do it very well.

Another mistake is to think that we will be successful only if we are great journalists, businessmen or entrepreneurs with great achievements. The truth is that we should follow the Lord’s example; otherwise His work will not be done. We should serve the Lord almighty with all our heart, with all our strength and will all our soul. Those who are wise should not let a single opportunity to preach the gospel escape. Always ask God to put the words in your mouth when you are preaching (Mt. 10:20).

The message of the gospel is an ultimatum. Don’t make it something else. When Christ called His disciples, they left all they had to follow Him; except for the stupid rich young man, who decided to keep his properties (which wouldn’t last for eternity) instead of following Jesus, which would bring him eternal joy (Mt. 19:21,22). This should always be your main concern: Be faithful to the mission the Lord delivered to you.

Before being saved, you had many desires and dreams. Now, however, as a new creature, these things are part of your past (2 Co 5:17). Don’t let them come back; if that happens, you won’t be fulfilling your mission. The kingdom of God demands from us to renounce every day whatever our flesh asks for, to take our cross and follow our Master (Mk. 8:34b). Those who do this will succeed in their journey of faith.

Get rid of everything that compromises your faith. Don’t hide or justify your sins. If you sinned, don’t try to explain your sin. Enter the Lord’s presence and confess; this way, you will reach mercy. But be careful! The Lord is a righteous judge. He raised you with Christ so that you may walk in newness of life (Rm. 6:4).

Never let the cross become something vain in your life, but, with dedication and in every opportunity, make the fragrance of Christ exhale through you. Even if they don’t recognize it, people will be blessed when you tell them about the love of God. What matters to the Lord is our commitment to fulfill His commandments.

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
