And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4.7

First of all, let us find out more about this peace that the Lord has in our hearts. For sure, it is wonderful! Since God is perfect, everything he does, has, plans or carries out is always the best. By granting us his peace, he is giving us that which is the best in every sense. The Most High is not granting us that which he made for us—which would be sufficiently— rather, he is giving us that which he made for himself.

His peace surpasses all understanding. No one is able to scrutinize or thoroughly understand the potential and the essence of God’s peace. The purpose of his peace is to guard our hearts. Without it, we are exposed to the devil’s attacks. But, being guarded by this peace, we can rest and will never have any part of our being affected by actions of the prince of darkness.

One of the enemy’s strategies is to make us feel under pressure. He knows that we—by ourselves—are not strong enough to withstand life’s pressures very long. So the devil will do everything he can to remove us from our position in Christ. But if we are embedded in God’s peace, there will not be any chance for the devil to manage to enter our lives and lead us into sin or suffering. Consequently, it is extremely important to have God’s peace.

It is in the heart of a man that decisions are made. The Lord said that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks, and that is why most Christians say bad things and confess defeat, thus giving the enemy control over their lives (Matthew 12.34). However, if the heart is strengthened with God’s Word, it will not manifest negative or filthy things. So it is imperative that we fill our hearts with good things.

Well, if out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks, and if in our hearts there is God’s peace, we will speak positive things, in accordance with God’s will. Therefore, since the Holy Spirit inspired Paul to write that we can have God’s peace, it is our duty to pray for that. If we do that, we will surround ourselves of good things. For that, all we need to do is examine the way we have lived, because this shows what has come out of our mouth.

With the peace of the Almighty God flooding your life, your heart will provide material for your mouth to speak things that please our Father. Therefore, you will not give birth to negative words. As a matter of fact, we should only bring forth good things. With God’s peace in us, even our minds will be pure and will help us obtain victory. Do not turn down this incomparable offer, made by our Father, who aims at our well-being.

In Christ, with love,

Everlasting Father, if we had never thought about what exactly having your peace means, now we know that it is of utmost importance. We cannot simply miss out on this blessing, because it enables us to have the patience and self-control that are inherent to you.

We thank you for this gift, because it is much more than anything we can think or imagine. Without any doubt, the good that this peace does to us also goes beyond our capacity. Therefore, help us not waste it, so that we may live at the highest level.

How wonderful it is to know that your peace will guard our hearts and minds, so that the enemy will not be able to strike us with any of his flaming darts, as efficient and well-prepared as these weapons may be! Only you, Lord, know how to do things well. Thank you, Father!
