My God will cast them away, because they did not obey Him; and they shall be wanderers among the nations.

Hosea 9:17

For 60 years Hosea prophesied against the Northern kingdom, which was made up of 10 of the 12 tribes and known by the name of Israel, or Samaria its capital, or even Ephraim, the main tribe. The nation was at the height of prosperity, which was achieved in the days of Jeroboam II, but received a harsh prophecy uttered by the prophet as the Lord commanded him. Because they did not heed God’s voice that people was doomed to a bitter end. Then, in the days of King Hosea, the prophet’s namesake, the ten tribes were carried into captivity in Assyria.

The message of that man of God is a message for all those who have departed from the Lord and disregarded His Word because of the success they achieved. Prosperity or success in any area without due respect to the Most High is a snare. Without the grace of God, man’s heart cannot endure temptation. Only those who truly serve the Lord are able to flee from sin and avoid falling into transgression. To this end, Jesus taught us to always hold fast to what is written.

Hosea told Israel not to rejoice in their prosperity because it was not a sign that they were spiritually well. Let that be a lesson to all who can accomplish themselves in life! Actually, what shows we are doing well in the eyes of the Lord is our fear of His Word. When we fail to read the Bible and to guide our lives based on what the Lord says, we head towards spiritual harlotry and subsequent captivity.

Even if your riches increase, do not put your heart in them. If you have been successful, seek the Lord because after a victory a defeat may come. Do not leave the limits of the word. Flee from greed, keep all the commandments and hold fast to what the Lord speaks through the Scriptures. Accepting glory from man, following the dictates of your heart or deeming yourself better than others is prostitution. He who indulges in prostitution will be cast away from the divine grace.

Due to their sin that people would no longer serve the Almighty. The praise they would dedicate to God would not be accepted and on top of it all they would not come into the Lord’s house and whoever ate their food would be unclean (Hosea 9:4). Even though he kept urging Ephraim to go back to his God for a long time, Hosea was not successful. So, as predicted, the day of punishment had arrived – the day of retribution for their madness (Hosea 9:7). Why did they not wake up?

It is difficult to understand why a lot of people are moving away from God. Why do people get carried away by temptation, even though they are aware of that Biblical warning according to which the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23)? If you have been yielding to some temptation, get rid of it now by entering into God’s presence and confessing your sins. It is better to lose it all, except your salvation. Run, flee now before the “Assyrians” take you into captivity.

In Christ with love,
