They do not know nor understand; for He has shut their eyes, so that they cannot see, and their hearts, so that they cannot understand. Isaiah 44.18

Idolatry is one of the most dangerous religious practices that exist, for behind an idol, there is a demon that blinds those who worship it. In many parts of the Bible, the Lord says severe words against those who manufacture, sell, or venerate these images, for there is only one God and Lord that we should fear (1 Co 8.6). Thus, those who fall astray from the truth, ruthlessly fall in the hands of evil spirits. So flee from any type of idolatry.

Those who have images do not know the danger they are in, even if they might claim that the images are only to remember those who served the Lord in the past. The Most High declares that they will become like the idols that they worship: with eyes, ears, mouth and hands, but not seeing, listening, speaking nor touching (Ps 115.4-8). Now, the idolatrous are under the curse of stupidity, and in the end of times, they will have the second death – the eternal separation from God (Rev 21.8).

The enemy is evil, he tries to make people create, sell and worship idols. These people may even have some light in them, but when they turn to such rituals, they lose their understanding. Then, these people may create something even more dangerous: a doctrine of demons (1 Tm 4.1). What the idolater understands does not come from God, for he does not have the mind of Christ, and in time, he can practice absurd acts, since the light that is in him is darkness (Mt 6.23b).

In His zeal, so that nobody might fall in sin, the Creator vehemently condemns this vile and perverse cult (Ex 20.4,5). Idolatry came so that people would not look to faith and would be conducted by the lies of the great liar, the devil. In all the Church’s history, since the beginning of the spiritual practices that were against the Word of God, the devil has made his evil lies work well.

In fact, not even a simple souvenir that was created with the purpose of making us think in the Lord should be accepted, for it brings a curse that will influence us for evil, even if it is only for decoration, as some people affirm. Therefore, do not let yourself be deceived by anything that the enemy says, for he is so pernicious that if people only get close to him, they already get contaminated.

If you do not want to be a prisoner in the hands of evil spirits, do not accept or tolerate any kind of idolatrous idea in your life. Your redemption is a consummated fact. Therefore, returning to your dirty and sinful past is the worst madness you can do. We have been delivered to live in the Kingdom of Freedom – the Gospel. Do not tolerate considering your pastor or any other person as an idol. Flee from this type of sin.

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
