13/11/2013 - THE SNARE OF RELIGIOUS FRIENDSHIPS

You have seen all that the LORD your God has done to all these nations because of you, for the LORD your God is He who has fought for you.

Joshua 23:3

The devil’s purpose is to kill, steal and destroy (John 10:10a). In order to fulfill such filthy objective he puts snares in our midst, which can be in the form of people who give advice that is not in the least inspired by God. Those who listen to what the devil says fall in traps from which, in most cases, they can no longer be free. Therefore, we must be careful, especially because on many occasions such type of advice comes from inside one’s own household.

In the 1970s, a great evangelical leader invited me to lunch. My ministry was still in its infancy so he thought he had the right to teach me how to do the work of God. Over a meal, the man said to me: “Soares, I want to teach you how to fill your church.” I soon realized that what he was about to say did not come from the Lord’s vineyard but, out of politeness, I allowed him to tell me the “secret”.

That leader’s counsel was: “You need to go to the gates of factories at five in the morning and speak out against social injustice and criticize the government. Then, people will go to your church and it will be packed” (in those days we were under military dictatorship). I immediately replied by saying: “Brother, I’ll do what Philip did in Samaria. So, if it is part of God’s plan, my church will be filled with His help.”

Stay alert because the devil wants to kill your faith. If you believe in his smooth talk, you will be disconnected from the Lord to the point of being “dead.” The devil wants to rob the believers of the blessings they have conquered for eternity and, to this end, he will do everything to destroy their relationship with the Almighty. So do not listen to him.

Joshua told the Israelites that it was the Lord God who had fought for them – which is something He still does for His faithful servants. Now, if the successor of Moses had sought the easiest way to occupy the Promised Land by making an agreement with the leaders of the surrounding regions, the people of Israel would have put the Lord to shame by failing to occupy the territory that was theirs. He who speaks the truth does not offend anyone but the prince of darkness who wants to always keep the human beings in error.

We do not need to worry about anything. All we have to do is to abide by the divine orders without letting anything come between us and our Father. In so going, the Lord Himself will fight for us. We just need to bow down before the divine tenets and comply with them for this is the will of the Lord.

In Christ with love,

R. R. Soares
