For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth.

III John 1:3

Elder Gaius was an example of a servant of God who, besides not having given offense in anything, walked so fervently in the truth that it became his truth. All of us should be like Gaius, because in acting like him all will be well with us; even our health will testify that we truly live the divine Word. This should be the aim of all the members of the Lord’s body. When the soul is well, everything goes wonderfully.

John spoke of the joy that overflowed his heart because of the elder’s Christian conduct. It is difficult to understand how people fail to live the faith they have received and how the family members of many saints do not imitate them. The good testimony of Christian families fills God’s heart with happiness and this is the reward for their work. Now, when the opposite happens, a feeling of deep sadness comes over.

There is nothing better than being faithful in all things both towards our brethren and those who are not yet part of the divine family. We are living epistles of the Lord Jesus (II Corinthians 3:3), which means that not only the lost but also the saved should read in us what the Scriptures say. Even the way we walk, gaze, talk or approach other people should be a message to all who need to see the love of God in action in us and through us.

Faithfulness in all things is the trademark of a Christian. The faithful stop the enemy’s mouth and even if someone speaks evil of a son of God, no one will believe it, not even the most wicked unbelievers because truth itself will testify of the behavior of God’s children. After all, he who is in Christ should diffuse the sweet fragrance of our Lord everywhere (II Corinthians 2:14-15) by the way they act in all kinds of situations.

The children of the Most High must lead a life that is worthy in His eyes. Whoever does not conduct himself according to the biblical precepts brings shame to the Gospel because people expect more than outward appearance from the Christians. In those days there were wars to prove that the god of a certain nation was the best. Now our battle is to make the lost realize through us that our God is in fact the supreme Lord of the whole Universe.

The aim of our ministry should always be to give as opposed to obtaining anything from those who have not yet converted. In doing this, we will be regarded as fellow workers for the truth. We have the name of Jesus and it will supply our needs, so we need not concern ourselves with other interests. He who walks in truth is of God and therefore always does good deeds.

In Christ with love,

R. R. Soares
