11/01/2014 - THE UNWATCHFUL HEART SINS

My enemies speak evil of me: “When will he die, and his name perish?” Psalm 41:5

Things started to go wrong in King David’s life when he fell into sin with Bathsheba (II Samuel 11:1-5). Prostitution, at all levels and varieties, is one of the worst sins someone can commit because it is a sin against one’s own body. In Psalm 41 we read that David’s enemies spoke ill of him, wondering when he would be separated from God and his name would perish. If you or any other believer yields to sin, the same will happen.

One look at a devilish attraction is enough to make a child of God fall into the clutches of the enemy. When you feel that there is malice in a friendship or that someone misinterpreted your interest in helping him/her, it is time to bow out and avoid being around such “friend”. Passion always rises in the unwatchful heart because when one heeds what the devil suggests, one gets under his deadly influence.

If David had turned his back to the “absent-minded” Bathsheba at her bath on the terrace, he would not have coveted her beautiful body. The truth is that he who does not flee from sin ends up falling into it. Observe what has caught your fancy lately. If it comes from the enemy, pray to the Lord, ask Him for forgiveness and do not consider accepting his offers ever again. Nothing that comes from him should entice you, unless you are willing to get out of the divine presence.

Even if, for example, you have been betrayed and find yourself in the position of filing for divorce, keep an eye out so that you do not give any chance for the devil to oppress you. Whenever you feel he tries to persuade you into doing something wrong, do not yield to him. The day will come when the righteous Judge will set you free so that you attain true happiness. All that comes from the evil one must be rejected at once. Giving tit for tat will bring curse upon you, besides being an act of infidelity to the divine command.

Do not let the enemy speak evil of your life, asking when you will be disconnected from God. Even if someone falls, the Lord knows how an individual suffers from being far from Him, so because our Father is love He will do everything for that person to restore his fellowship with Him. If you have sinned, beg for mercy and entreat the Lord to heal your soul by confessing your transgression. God will hear your cry and will help you get rid of the enemy’s claws.

When you first accepted the Gospel you received a new name, whereby, in the spiritual world, your requests are met and you are respected. But when you sin your name will weaken until it perishes. Do not give such joy to the enemy! Come back to God, who will forgive you and your name will be strengthened and you will be able to resume the mission the Lord has given you!

In Christ with love,
