01/12/2013 - TRUTHLESS PROPHECY

The LORD has made you priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, so that there should be officers in the house of the LORD over every man who is demented and considers himself a prophet, that you should put him in prison and in the stocks.

Jeremiah 29:26

During the days of his ministry, Jeremiah faced many problems for being a servant of the Almighty one, because the majority of the people of Judah didn’t want to hear messages that didn’t bring good news. However, because he was faithful to the one who lifted him up, Jeremiah was rejected by many. Still his words were true, and the people of God were taken captive to Babylon. If they had listened to Jeremiah, they would have had a different fate.

Because the people of Israel were sinning and not respecting the Word of the Lord, captivity was their destiny, and therefore, Jeremiah’s warnings were not well received. Watch out for those who rise against God’s leaders, because there’s always sin inside their hearts. Some reach the point of condemning those who are innocent to hide the wrong things they’re doing.

There was a man called Shemaiah who thought he could face God’s prophet.  The same thing happens in our days. Sinners, who don’t live according to the Word, and whose eyes see nothing else other than self-interest, are going against those who serve the Lord in spirit and in truth. Nevertheless, their end is near and it will be a sad one, for they will suffer for all eternity.

Shemaiah sent letters to the people in Jerusalem, to priest Zephaniah and to all the other priests, ordaining them to throw into prison whoever called themselves prophets. By doing that he was trying to stop Jeremiah, who was a man of God, from prophesying. Shemaiah’s condemnation was immediate and very painful (v.32).

All those who raise their hand against the Lord’s counseling shall pay a high price for it. Those who walk away from the Lord never prosper, for they seek their own interests. Day after day they shall see the consequences of their rebellion, and when their life ends, they shall be judged for eternity. The worst thing is that these people know what will happen to their future, but they don’t wake up or repent.

Don’t listen to your friends, relatives or others around you. If you fell into temptation, the only way out is to make things right with the person whom you betrayed, lied to, stole from or did any other wrong thing.

The Lord God will never call the guilty innocent. Can your eternal happiness be exchanged for something sinful? Is it worth to lose eternity because of something stupid?

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
