"In the days of Shamgar, son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were deserted, and the travelers walked along the byways. Village life ceased, it ceased in Israel, until I, Deborah, arose, arose a mother in Israel.  Judges 5.6,7

Many people in the history of humanity, and now in our days, have been responsible for other people walking astray. It is unavoidable that things that will bring scandal to many should come, but like Jesus said, woe to the man by whom the offense comes (Mt 18.7). The perverse work might not be a shocking sin – it may be even considered a good action – but is something that leads someone to abandon the Lord.

We do not know very well what Shamgar did. The fact is that his work led many people to disobey the Truth. A father of a family that prospers dishonestly may bring comfort to his dear relatives but might be influencing them never again to seek the Most High, and lose themselves eternally. An immoral proposal tends to lead the weak in the faith to stumble, and thus, walk towards perdition. Undoubtedly, many Christians will be responsible for other people that walk astray.

In those days, people stopped walking in the ways of God, and this allowed the enemy, in little time, to show himself with his wicked works. The same will happen to your family, to your life, and all who do not understand and accomplish the Lord’s plan. Unfortunately, there are preachers who do not watch nor seek the Father in prayer and in Scriptures to know what they should minister to the people. Now, without prophecy, there is corruption (Prov 29.18).

If the Word is not opened, those who were doing right will fall astray. Then, there will only be sadness, suffering, and other evil works. Woe to the man by whom the offense comes, said the Lord Jesus. Something good might have been written about Shamgar, but the truth cannot be omitted. Will it be written about you that you contributed, in any way, so that someone might draw nearer to God, be firmed in the faith and served Him wholeheartedly?

Whoever lets himself be influenced by the cares of life, the fascination of riches, vanity, or other ambitions cannot be a good example for others, and therefore, on Judgment Day, he might be made responsible for the deviation and eternal destruction of one or many people. Ponder about what has been your position concerning this message. The evil one might try, but he is only able to knock you down if you let him.

God needs new Deborahs to be like mothers to His people. It is not fair to let the little ones who believe in Jesus without the good example, without a cup of water. Daniel said that the wise will shine like the brightness of the firmament and those who turn many to the righteousness of God will shine like the stars forever and ever (Dan 12.3). What will you do?

Deborah did her part, I must do mine, and you must do yours. We were not placed here to act like fools, people who only think about pleasures and in accumulating riches. We have a commitment with the Word and must not give up on it. God has called us to be part of His work, and therefore, we must not fail at all.

In Christ, with love,

Lord of the harvest! Teach us what to do so that Your work may remain alive and not as in the days of Shamgar. If we do not have much to offer, at least a cup of cold water will already help many not to fall in mistake, but to seek You and serve You with love.

May the ways return to be walked and those who are far from the path not take any distorted courses. May there be growth, new churches being opened everywhere, and may the devil lose all the battles that he brings to destroy people.

Our request is for those who, many times like Shamgar, will be made responsible for the eternal loss of some people. Give us judgment, hunger for the Truth and a pure desire of helping our neighbor. May Your good hand be upon all who invoke You in Truth.
