But You, O LORD, are a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts up my head. Psalm 3.3

The Lord is for us whatever we make of him. However, we must not think of something and then say that is what God is for us. That is not the way it works. First we must hear from his Word what he declares to be in our favor. Whatever we understand from the Scriptures is what God is and has for each of us. Through our confession, he will become exactly what we feel in our heart. Faith is important for us to take possession of what the Most High has revealed to us.

Since he was a boy, David, king of Israel, knew how to take possession of whatever the Lord declared to be his. If the Holy Scriptures said something, David would immediately take possession of it, having and being what the Almighty God had said. Perhaps that is the difference between us and the son of Jesse. To him, it did not matter what he felt, but rather what was revealed to him. David gave the Word of God its rightful place in his life.

Now let me ask you one thing: what is your relationship with the Creator and Lord of all things? For you, is he only God or also your Father? For the world, he is God, and some people deem him as vindictive, mean and absent at the same time. But, for us, who believe in his Word, he is our Father, the Creator of all things and our Savior. And our relationship with him is based on such belief.

David understood that the Lord was at least three things for him: first, his shield, protection, so David was never afraid of going to the pastures to watch over his father’s sheep. Even though he would stay there by himself, far from home, on an open field, subject to the attack of wild beasts, David believed that the Lord was his protection, that he would never fail him. That is what the Lord Almighty was for him, and no evil came upon David.

In addition to being his shield, his protection, David also learned that the Most High was his glory. As a result, he was sure that he could face any enemy and come out victorious. Therefore, he was not afraid of a lion, the king of the jungle, when it crossed his path and attacked one of his sheep. David charged at the beast and killed it. Then it was the turn of a bear, which also tried to eat from his flock and ended up dead.

With a strong faith boiling within his heart, David was appalled when he saw the soldiers of Israel trembling before the arrogance of giant Goliath, who threatened the entire army of God’s people. He could not believe his eyes: they were dismayed and greatly afraid of the champion of the Philistines. But the young shepherd knew that the Lord was the One who lift up his head. So David volunteered to fight the giant and, with a single sling shot, he knocked Goliath down, and was victorious (1Samuel 17.49,50).

What is God for you? Have you ever felt that a biblical promise conveys you trust in the Lord? So, whatever you feel when you read or hear the Scriptures is that in which you must believe. The Most High is onto such promise to bless your life.

In Christ, with love,

Lord Almighty, like David, we also want to learn from you what you are for us, so that we may live without any fear. The enemy will not overcome us if we know our rights in you and, at the same time, we are making use of them.

The king of Israel, a man after your own heart, understood that you were his shield; as a result, he fought a lion and came out victorious. David did not fear fighting a bear or Goliath. Similarly, Lord, with you on our side, we will always overcome.

We need to act as your servants, in accordance with your calling. We must not be dismayed or afraid of the enemy, pleading for him not to attack us. Lord, you are our glory and the One who lifts up our heads. Thank you so much, dear God!
