17/04/2018 - WHEN FEAR SPEAKS LOUDER

And every one of you came near to me and said, ‘Let us send men before us, and let them search out the land for us, and bring back word to us of the way by which we should go up, and of the cities into which we shall come.’ Deuteronomy 1:22

The Israelites saw the glory of the Most High in Egypt, and their departure from that place proved that the Lord is strong and mighty. With signs and wonders, without the loss of one life, He took them out of captivity. Then, it was time for God to keep His promise, but they were keeping Him from accomplishing His beautiful plan. May we not be like the Israelites and never let fear take over us. We must do all that the Almighty commands!

The Redeemer led them and set them before the territory of the Amorites. But when they were ordered to take possession the Promised Land, they hesitated, and as an excuse, they asked Moses to ask the Lord if they could send spies to see if the region was like the Almighty had spoken. Now, how could the Lord deceive them? For them, what happened in Egypt was in the past and represented nothing more. Many of God’s children have been tempted to make a similar mistake.

Moses met the request, but this attitude showed that the Hebrew people were terrified. If they had obeyed what they were told, in the blink of an eye they would be in possession of that area, but because they came up with this other option, they soon realized that they had not acted accordingly.

The Lord allowed the twelve spies to be sent, and when they returned, ten of them brought bad news, defaming the land and the Word. That is why they had to walk 40 years in the wilderness, living in tents, until the last of them, over the age of 20 (the age the Lord considered to already be held accountable), died of accidental or natural death. Only then, with great struggle, they managed to enter Canaan.

Never try to negotiate with the Lord, because since He is omniscient and omnipotent, He can turn into reality that which He promises. When we become frightened, we offend God’s foreknowledge and we upset Him. Believe in what He speaks; after all, His Word is the Truth. If they had obeyed, the people would have seen how rewarding it is to trust in God.

Even when facing the dominion of the Amorites, and having only to ascend and possess the land, the Israelites feared; so, they walked through the desert for four decades. Ignore the threats of the accuser, because what God speaks and does is above all intimidation. Believe in what He says, and the battle will be easier to overcome.

When fear imposes itself, the devil wins. They shouldn´t, but they were scared. Why not give credit to the heavenly Father? He just needs us to be obedient and carry out His purposes. Trust in the Lord, and He will do what is necessary.

In Christ with love,

Oh God! What an ugly thing the children of Israel did on that day in front of the territory of the Amorites! They should have entered and taken possession of what You had promised them. Since they did not, they wandered for 40 years through the desert.

You were ready to go out ahead of them, opening the way for them and making them settle in the Promised Land. But their lack of faith led them to wander through tortuous places. Similarly, many are going through trials for nothing.

They should not have been afraid or frightened, but they acted like this. We cannot do the same. What You tell us must be precisely and completely fulfilled. We must prevent the enemy from defeating or hindering when time comes for us to take possession of Your faithful promises. Amen!
