For You have forsaken Your people, the house of Jacob, because they are filled with eastern ways; they are soothsayers like the Philistines, and they are pleased with the children of foreigners. Isaiah 2.6

Everything that is registered in Scriptures is for our own learning. Therefore, we must examine it, for it contains eternal life and testifies about Jesus and about us as well (Jo 5.39). The Master came as a man, and therefore, He needed to examine what was registered in the Holy Book in order to learn things. In the same way, we must check what the Bible says, so that we may learn from the Savior and from our own lives. We are truly freed when we know the Truth (Jo 8.32).

In this lesson’s verse, we learn that the Most High can forsake us as well, as he did with the house of Jacob. Since they left the Lord’s ways, which are perfect (Ps 18.30), the Israelites were filled with eastern ways. These ways do not help at all – they only disturb the walk of the children of God. The truth is that they were successful in man’s eyes, but in truth, they put everything that they received in an “empty pocket”.

The house of Jacob was filled with eastern ways, and this hindered them, for their practices were of those who did not know the Truth. Many discovered that the mystical subjects gave them power to manipulate those who were not yet freed of the demonic ties. Therefore, they could have them at their side. These costumes do not bring the presence of God, but His wrath. It is incredible how man’s religiousness can make people act in a weird way.

The mysticism in Church is a plague that makes the house of God become powerless, and at the same time, filled with problems. This practice leads serious and enlightened people, who know the human sciences and think they are something, to carry a dummy throughout the streets, praising it, weeping, and paying with their own lives for this barren and evil faith. They think that by believing so, they please the Father. Yet only those who obey His Word please the Lord.

Take heed: in many good evangelical churches, we find people that are well intentioned, but that were not taught to believe that the Lord speaks through His Word. When He speaks, He speaks straightly to the heart of His children. In the excitement of helping someone, these people force to obtain revelations and end up receiving “revelations” from the enemy. This is a serious fact and it brings loss to the Church and to these people.

The Israelites were wrong in mingling with the wise, masters, and experienced in the art of being successful in all things. Thus, they brought strange fire to the people of God. The result pleased those who were worried with the cares of this world, fascinated by the deception of riches and the ambitions of the remaining things that the wicked love. They forgot that first they should seek the Kingdom of God and His justice (Mt 6.33).

You can’t deny that these things brought them prosperity, but it also led them astray from God (Is 2.7,8). The result of this behavior was the condemnation to captivity, where they remained for 70 years. Whoever does not desire to return to prison must renounce his own life and follow the Master.
