Now when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.

II Chronicles 20: 22

The crisis broke out and apparently there was no way to sort it – on account of King Jehoshaphat being acquainted with its remedy – The direction of The Word – he started praying and when that happened God sent for one of His prophets to convey the message to the king. The Lord’s answer might seem fragile in the eyes of ordinary humans, men made of flesh; as a matter of fact, it is indeed weak according to men but not to God. They then obeyed The Almighty’s command to the king and it turned out that The Most High set ambushes against their enemies.

On and off it seems that we’ve come to a dead end; yet, it’s only it, apparently. Those who are guided by The Holy Spirit can seek The Lord through His Word and then they’ll see an open door ahead. If they go through it and really believe in the message been conveyed to them they’ll see that God has actually led them into taking the best way; that’s the reason why you mustn’t try to escape from that crisis you’re in but instead look for the divine direction!

Jehoshaphat’s attitude was right: he got near The Lord – “because he who asks will receive”, Jesus assured (Matthew 7: 8 a). It is important to know that the answer comes from God, and it’ s not the one we are expecting, because He doesn’t give anybody His glory for the wonders He’ll be performing. So, do not try to say to Him what needs to be done, and whenever the issue is sorted out – even though you might not understand so, please, don’t argue against Him; just do your part!

God sent one of His prophets to give His command. Well, the Lord always has someone who’s on their knees at His feet to listen to Him, someone who will convey the divine message and that’s the reason why you must never despise a servant of God. Sometimes, our Father doesn’t give His answers to a well known prophet but instead he picks a verse which nobody has paid notice to yet. What really counts is that all word that comes out of the mouth of The Most High will never be unproductive, in fact it carries out the mission previously assigned by Him (Isaiah 55: 11).

The command from The Lord to the king and his people could have seemed quite unimportant in the eyes of men; yet, the reality was quite different (verses 16 and 17). What general would believe in a military strategy in which his soldiers would be standing before their enemies praising The Lord instead of wrestling? My brother, you must believe and never doubt what The Most High speaks into your heart. What counts here is not how He can heal a lame but that He indeed does so.

Jehoshapaht and his people obeyed the commands of The Lord and that’s why they came out victorious. Yet, had they not followed the divine plan many of their soldiers would have been lost and they would have been defeated. Just like the people of God did in the past, you must follow The Most High´s directions and He will certainly be with you. God’s Words are not spoken by chance but they’re sharp and with a purpose.

The outcome of Jehoshaphat’s obedience to The Lord was that He set up ambushes against the adversaries to take them by surprise and then they ended up killing each other. That will also happen to those afflictions sent against your life. God honours His Word, He’s faithful! You must believe in it and take possession of that message!

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
