But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. James 3:17

Human wisdom, which is useful and practical for the things of this world, can be learned by observing the teachings and attitudes of the wise.  It is not necessary to go to school to learn how to negotiate and deal with people.  However, those who do study become deeply knowledgeable in matters concerning this life.  But this is no advantage concerning divine matters.  In certain cases, such knowledge is dangerous for it is worldly and diabolical (James 3:15).

But that which comes from God is pure and is learned by revelation from the Scriptures.  Those who obtain and observe it will never be involved in wrong doings, and even though having been tempted to, when they perceive the error, they turn away and cease to practice the enemy’s plan.  To be this virtuous one needs only to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. 

Wisdom from Above is peaceful.  Therefore it never makes someone lose their patience; on the contrary it gives perseverance to those who have it.  This understanding is received at the moment of conversion to Christ.  This way, during the Christian journey, the person acquires more wisdom and learns how to approach God, resist the devil and fulfill the mission assigned by the Lord.  In this way, there is success!

Divine wisdom is meek and moderate.  Accordingly we control the impulses of our spirit.  Self-control is a fruit produced by the Holy Spirit, works better will these qualities (Galatians 5:22).  With it we do not follow the devil in its attempt to draw us away from the Almighty, for it keeps us from stumbling on the provocations of evil, and it also keeps us from swelling in the flesh and behave with violence.

Wisdom makes us bearable.  With this we avoid the tempting offers of deception by the enemy as if they seemed to be from God.  When the Lord speaks to us, we recognize His voice readily and we reject that of evil.  There is no way the Christian can be defeated by the devil, seeing that at all times with wisdom from above the  Christian can discern the voice of the good Shepherd (John 10:11-14).

This virtue of the Lord is full of mercy and good fruits.  So when we perceive that something will not bear good fruit in God’s sight we immediately reject it as not being from Him.  Then, with this divine intelligence we set ourselves free from the traps that are set by the devil.  The wise always produce good fruit and acts of mercy.  We need this to win and honor our Father at all times. 

Other aspects of this wisdom: it harbors no partiality or hypocrisy.  There is no way we can err for we quickly perceive that the devil himself is who is behind all the evil offers.  Pray to be filled with the wisdom of God.
