Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you. Genesis 13:17

After Abraham almost lost his wife in Egypt (Gn. 12:10-20), he decided to put an end to everything that took away his peace. He called his nephew Lot, and suggested that they should walk separate ways, for their pastors were in constant fights. Abraham wasn’t upset that Lot chose the best lands next to the Jordan river. The Lord ordained Abraham to witness the land, for it would be given to him.

What happened in Egypt marked Abraham’s life forever. He feared that Pharaoh would take his wife, and that’s what happened (v. 14,15). Abraham must have suffered a lot; however, at the same time, he proved that he trusted the Lord during that time of trial, and as a result of his trust, the Lord stopped Pharaoh from touching Abraham’s wife Sarah.

When he came back from the land of Shem, Abraham realized that his pastors were quarreling with Lot’s; he decided to put an end to this situation. He would never have peace with Lot on his side; and if he didn’t have peace, his enemies would find his weak spots. On the other hand, if he made things right with his nephew, Abraham would live a peaceful life.

In a very clear way, Abraham called his nephew Lot and suggested that they should separate. Since Abraham was proposing the offer, he let Lot decide what would be best for him. In order for a separation to run well and not lead to any misunderstandings, we must show the options to our counterpart, and let them decide what’s best for them. Those who act in a correct way don’t leave space for doubts. The worst that could happen in this situation would be to cause others to become suspicious of you.

Lot knew that Abraham was blessed; however, when he saw the beautiful and healthy lands beside the Jordan river, his eyes were opened, and he decided to go that way. Abraham went to the mountains. Success always follows those who own the blessing; it doesn’t matter where they go. God honors those who honor Him, and that’s why we should always let Him lead our lives.

The Lord most high approved Abraham’s attitude and ordained Abraham to witness the land, for it would be given to him. Those who place their eyes in the Lord shall see that He makes their lines fall into pleasant places (Ps. 16:6). However, those who are subject to greed or to any other malign feeling will find out that they’re not doing the right thing. Therefore, never complain about where the Lord sets you!

In Christ, with love,
